Elephant!

Today will be the last day of les chars (floats) parading through the town although the fixed displays in les Jardins Biovès will continue until the 7th March. This will be my last posting on the Fête du Citron and here's my favourite statue from this year's Indian theme - the elephant.

  1. That is a magnificent statue. I can't imagine how they make these things stay together. I suppose some sort of wire structure. Anyway, nice photo.

  2. I think it's amazing! what a brilliant work!
It's somthing like the Fallas in Valencia but with lemons and oranges and you don't burn it at the end!

The fruit is fixed onto a wire frame and held in place with rubber bands. See the posting called Oranges and Lemons, tra tra - in February.

  9. Really. Rubber bands holds the thing together. Amazing. That is almost like some of the glue they use these days on automobiles and airplanes. The glue often lasts longer than steel welds and bolts.

The rear view mirrors in American cars are glued onto windshields and the glue is subject to terrific heat in the summer and freezing in the winter but those mirrors are there forever.

  10. I have mixed feelings towards the elephant as early this morning I nearly had my car towed away by the police. It was parked only yards from the elephant ! All right, it SHOULDN'T have been parked there as they were clearing all the streets in preparation for the last parade but this was 8 o'clock and the parade was not going to start until 14.30 ... But I wanted a certain baguette and NO DEAR READERS I DIDN'T GET IT and had to settle for a lesser baguette !

  14. En venant sur votre blog, j'étais sûre de trouver des photos de la fête du citron, j'y suis venue plusieurs fois en voisine, j'habitais Bormes les Mimosas, et c'est magnifique.
Faites vous aussi du vin d'oranges amères?
