Brocante!

The 1st May each year sees a massive brocante in Menton and each year it gets more and more crowded. Stalls selling all manner of beautiful antiques sit alongside others selling total junk. Anyone can take a stall and it makes for a fascinating mix. Tables crowd the walking street, the market area, and various squares throughout the town and along the sea. It's pretty much impossible to park but everyone has a good time. This lady caught my camera's eye. She has difficulty walking yet notice how elegant she is, she wears her hat at a jaunty angle and has a beautifully cared-for little dog. I've photographed this lady before - in a different hat! - on Riviera Dogs.

Very nice photographs and so much nicer larger. The lady is elegantly dressed. The dog matches her in every respect. Isn't it amazing how animals accept their owners and seem to fit right in. You mentioned this lady has problems walking. Her gait and stance in the photos, including the one in the red hat, would seem to indicate her hips are killing her. Then I noticed in the top most photo she has what we call a "bunyon" or a "corn" growing on her foot and that has deforned her shoe. So she might get around better in stocking feet or no shoes at all.

  2. Now, Abe, how would she be viewed as the barefoot hat-lady. Her chapeaus are wonderful. And, I would love that place and all its energy and activity.

  3. Now there's a lady who knows what's what, and how to do it properly! Nice week of images, J. (Chrysler has to be everybodies favourite)

  7. Love that little dog. We just saw two similar dogs at the grocery store and I said to my husband, "in less that two weeks we'll be seeing little old ladies with similar puppies." Such a face!

She is elegant, yes! The lady, too!

  8. Jilly, what did you buy at the brocante? The dishes/china in the first photo look really nice.

  10. Yes, it's a Yorkie - and I 'think' the child in the second photograph is blowing up a balloon.

And Ming, I didn't buy anything cos I was too busy taking photographs for DP - which is just as well as I have a houseful of clutter already!

Sometimes tho I do buy pressies for my best friend in Ohio - she loves 'stuff' like me - but again her house is pretty much crowded out too.

I'm trying to become a little more 'zen' ... so taking photographs is a great way of keeping me occupied.
