Cimetière du Trabuquet

This photograph was taken from the same level as the main cemetery, which is above the Old Town. Here you see another cemetery, the Cimetière du Trabuquet which is higher still and above Garavan, another part of Menton. I've not yet visited this cemetery, but I will and then, hopefully, so will you. I like cemeteries, find them fascinating places. Do you?

  2. Absolutely! Aside from their (mostly) great locations and landscaping, the stories they tell and history they teach, I enjoy the natural ambiance of the cemetery. Great place to reflect...

The artist Aubrey Beardsley is buried in this cemetery. He died in Menton in 1898 aged only 25, of tuberculosis. I find both cemeteries quite moving as there are a number of people buried there who died very young - many who like Aubrey Beardsley were ill and hoping to benefit from Menton's generous climate ...

  4. I find old cemeteries to be a lot more interesting with their huge tombstones and unique grave plots. This is an excellent shot =)

  5. That's a beautiful shot Jilly! I can't say that I'm fascinated with cemeteries at all. Our cemetaries are generally not very well maintained though. Maybe if they were as beautiful as yours I'd be fascinated too! :0)

  6. This cemetery seems very nice with all its trees and certainly a beautiful view, but no, I don't like cemeteries, at least in France where they often are too mineral and stereotyped...
