A Walk to Chapel Saint Lazare - 2

We continue walking and once we get past a few houses on the right of the chemin, (they sit below the track, of course) - we look to our right and see this view. If we look slightly further to our right, we see the beautiful medieval village rising on its hill. I'll post that view another day. The motorway is so far below us that there is no sound - at least not today. Occasionally, depending on the weather, you might hear the slightest buzz - but normally, in the village, you simply don't hear it.

Watch your step! Someone is working on a house below the track and there is no barrier where we are standing. We don't want anyone falling into the garden below.

Note: I found a photograph today of the actual beginning of this walk and have posted it (second photo) on yesterday's posting - click here.

Tomorrow I'll show what lies behind an almost hidden rusty gate.

A very nice view, Jilly. It is all but amazing to me that the bridge, up in the air like that, has that much traffic on it. I assume it is local traffic or going to local places and not like our interstate highway system. And maybe it is.

Nice photography. I could never walk this far. My inhalers don't last that long.

  2. That's the main autoroute, Abraham - just like your Interstate Highway - the lifeline joining Italy - France - Spain and beyond.

Autoroutes in this part of the world have to be high because of the Alpes. You only see a part of it here as it goes in and out of a tunnel.

  3. Amazing view of the vista and bridge structure. I remember traveling across these a lot when I was in Europe. Thank goodness, I wasn't the one driving.

  5. Très joli, vraiment. This region is fantastic (I mean southern France).

Brussels wants to reduce the production of wine in Europe. But the problem is the "quota" (surface) of vineyards is not "respected" in some countries like Italy or Spain. Before compelling our wine growers to uproot their vines they should control that and have the cheaters to uproot theirs first. I am very angry at Brussels.

  6. Lovely view! It would be horrible if you could hear the loud noise of cars whizzing along the auto route. The engineers must have taken everything into account when they built that auto route, and thankfully so!

I'm enjoying our walk so far Jilly! Thanks for the guided tour ;-)

What a neat idea, to take your visitors along on a walk. Right now, I want to be where you are. And I'm l looking forward to seeing what's beyond the gate.

  9. Simply stunning! And we can pretend that the highway is an old roman aqueduct ;-)

So, you swear to us that, aside from the construction zone, there's a barrier to protect us from tumbling down, right? Otherwise, I WANT TO GO HOME!!!

I love walking along with you. This is such a cool idea. We are renting a self-catering apartment in Menton in October and this is giving me an idea for a day trip.

  16. Hey, Jilly, I'm a little late, but I'm slogging along. I thought you said this was going to be easy. Looks a little treacherous.
