A gift for Aunt Mary?

Visiting Menton and want to take a gift home with you? No problem. In the pedestrian street you'll find soaps, candles in the form of fruit, Herbes de Provence, lavender - in bunches or wrapped in fabric sachets ready to hang in your wardrobe, tablescloths in a provençal pattern, olive oil containers, weird looking dolls made to cover a toilet roll (!) and much much more.

  1. They're interesting gifts for homemakers, and the fruits look like real ones. I'm sure any of my aunts and cousins would love to receive such gifts. Actually me too.
    Interesting photo.

  2. Herbes of Provence. Is that imported from Provence? I like the lavender or how they sell it. I have some here but it has not grown much since last year as the winter was tricky and warm and then things started to grow and it got cold again and killed lots of plants and trees. Also this summer has been bone dry. I like the variety in the offerings. And it is a nice photograph.

    Thanks for all your visits.

  10. I've just finished my 2005 Provence tour posts at Blogtrotter without visiting Menton; and regrettably, the Music Festival is almost over... But the next time I'll go to Provence, it's sure I'll spend some time there. 316 cloudless days a year seem to be quite inviting, before climate changes...

  11. I DID bring some of these things home with me. In fact I have the red-orange tablecloth on my kitchen table and last night I used herbs de provence on my roasted vegetables.

  12. I love the herb de provence and the lavender sachets I bought back from Cote D'Azur.

But I hated that almond soft candy that is the shape of olives but flat. They are quite popular in the south of France but I didn't care for them. Do you know what I'm talking about?

  13. Ming - I think you mean this, do you? If so I agree! I don't like it either.

  14. Yes, that is it - Calisson D'Aix.

I saw them in Aix-en-Provence. My friend from school used to live in La Roque D'Antheron. I think her parents still live there. Gorgeous region of France.
