Love before food!

This scene made me laugh out loud! The two guys are waiters at a bar/restaurant located at the foot of the Old Town and each are carrying two plates of food. The restaurant is out of shot and to the left as you look at this photo. The tables are down steps to the right. The archway leading into the Old Town is up the slope. See HERE to get an idea of where we are.

Alors! They meet a girl they know and of course this involves much kissing, regardless of the food and whether it gets cold. This is one of the many, many reasons I just love France!

  1. Lovely catch, Jilly. But it wasn't your food you were waiting for, was it?

About the Arkansas letter, it's making the rounds on e-mail lately and I captured it to share with the world via my blog. The photo was just one I had of laughing women and I paired it with the letter. I can't remember what the women were laughing about - but someone had cracked a joke or two, I'm sure.

Actually, I think I drove right by Menton. It was in another little town where I bought my herbes de provence and the red tablecloth. But when I return to Provence I will surely e-mail you in advance and arrange to take you to a cafe in your town, one you have shown on your blog perhaps?

  2. Very nice photo, Jilly, and your explanation is excellent too.

I am also working on Features about why people comment on some posts and not others. You might find that interesting when it is done.

  4. Very funny. But her hair is in the food. That is why I don't often go to restaurants :-))

  5. Ha! Funny indeed for us looking on. Not funny I'm sure for the folks who were waiting hungrily for their food :-D

But can you tell me why they would have to carry the food outside like this? I don't see a restaurant in the other shot either. Is it that the kitchen is in one building and the restaurant seating area is in another?

  6. Ann, Really I need a longshot to show you. If you click on the link I gave on today's post, you see the slope up to the old town. Well the restaurant is on the left but again, out of shot but only slightly - ie just below what you see in that second photo. The tables (because it's summer) are in an enormous square - the waiters are walking in that direction. It's not at all clear - am sorry.

This is common in France, you often get restaurants one side of a road and seating the other. For instance, see my post for 4 August.

  7. Ahh. Your answer is very clear Jilly. Now I understand it more clearly. I can understand why they wouldn't have seating in that alley. It's too small. So the seating would be in the square.

  8. And I've even dined at some cafes in France with seating in some kind of square...much, much nicer than sitting inside. Even when it's a little chilly I'll still opt for outside seating ;)

Sorry about that Jilly but this sort of comment makes my blood boil!!!!

I adore your post and I adore the French for all these reasons.

Thanks for the comments - I haven't put my email on my blog - do most people - I am a bit worried about getting heaps of comments like Vera above!!!!

  12. Funny and very true. While in the US it is just the opposite. Food leads to love ... Since the human condition compels us all towards love the two paths the French and Americans take may explain the differences in our waist lines.

  13. Jilly, that is really so French. A good plug for the restaurant. So good even the waiters take home the food.

You comment on my blog and the links to other comments on weather. I got the idea from another City Daily Photo blogger (can't remember who). But one day, I was glancing at the logs and noticed that I was getting hit after hit from another CPD blog. I zoomed over there to see what it was all about.

Kind of sharing the wealth idea.
