Market produce: cheese

Let's have a few days of Menton market's wonderful food. Today: cheeses - made from the milk of goat, sheep or cow. Top left, look at the round cheese in the centre foreground. This is a Banon from Provence, and is wrapped in chestnut leaves and tied with rafia. Delicious. How many cheeses do you recognise?

Come back tomorrow - we'll be buying some olives.

(I'm in Germany to judge the Old English Sheepdogs at the Bundesseiger show so forgive me, but I won't be able to comment much before getting home on Monday evening. )

  4. Aaaaahhhh! Fantastic display of goodness! :)

I recognize quite a few. Here we are very lucky to have a large variety of imported cheeses available and very reasonably priced, and many come from France. :)

  10. Cheese, glorious cheese! As I'm lactose intolerant, I am thrilled that I've found so many goat and sheep cheeses here in Portland. It's actually more like bliss! What a great photo!

I hope all went well with your judging in Germand.

  11. ooooh, yes! I posted a market ic today too....but the market we were at is not nearly as wonderful as this.
Sorry I haven’t visited as much as I would like lately. I have been hellish busy, not least because I am standing for election as a presidential officer in our teacher union – lots of extra campaigning work, and also trying to keep the home fires burning, and the blog going!

  12. I love cheese and also Old English Sheepdogs. Owned one years ago who wasn't 'show quality' and had ended up at the pound for adoption.
