The railway station at Sospel in the rain - and below the last of the four carriages of the Orient Express - in better condition than the one you saw yesterday. Personally I love the proportions of this railway station, the colour, the shutters, the original name up the top - and on the side (see below). Do you?
These scenes are the ones you see and which "hit the gut", but you can never (or only with great difficulty) capture that feeling in a photo. A painter might do it.
ReplyDeleteBut, yes, isn't it strange how the shapes, colours, mist, light, (whatever) reach out and grab you in certain personal way? Just like those "rusting Chevies" I touched on ages ago. What is it?
....P.S. has it got something to do with "a la recherche.."? (which I will never read...although it is on the shelf)
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful old railway station, appears to still be in use ?
ReplyDeleteIt's so high up in the mountains. I suppose there will soon be snow on the ground. What a pleasure you must have in exploring and discovering all these hidden treasures, so steeped in history.
Wowee, Thanks for sharing these! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the station on the portal, my first thought was, "How unusual for Menton and Jilly photos." Of course, the station's facade is far different than the other buildings you have shown us. It seems so much more utilitarian, which suits it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful building. I think the diffused light and rainy/misty days can make for some great pictures.
ReplyDeleteJilly, it is the most amazing thing to be able to share this place, from what feels like a million miles away.
ReplyDeleteLet's hear it for Hercule! What great stories, and what a great train. It is sad to see the Orient Express like this. And yet the station is every bit as wonderful as you said.
Thanks,
Wayne
I do, too. A very unique railway station. I see a fire to the right. Do you know what they were burning?
ReplyDeleteExcellent. I also flipped over the Orient Express photos and post.
ReplyDeleteWow.
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteFenix, I don't know what they were burning, but possibly fallen trees - we had a lot down in this last bout of rain - this ONLY bout of rain!
