Rue Longue - 3
A longer shot of Rue Longue - as you can see, the underneath of the street has been opened up for new sewers, electrics, etc. I gather this is all part of bringing life to this street. There is a butcher, a couple of art galleries and two restaurants but the idea is for the street to become much more commercial.
Wow, what a view. Yet, a charm in these small street views that exist rarely here in the usa! ; (
ReplyDeleteI'd bet that most of the people in that neighborhood/town don't see streets like that as "charming" as you do.
ReplyDeleteJilly, when the renovations are done, do they try to recreate the original sidewalks?
Charming is certainly an apt description, what a wonderful street. However the electric supply is so charming that one should keep back a bit !
ReplyDeleteI hope they pave the street in the typical cobblestones.
Let's see it again in a few weeks time.
Nice shot. Old world charm which you just can't get in the middle of the United States.
ReplyDelete...this is very encouraging. It''l look great in a few several months time.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the R u T sunset...I did, too.
I think I see a paint can as well ... Interesting your mention of a butcher. We rarely see specialized shops for butchers any more in the US. But I think I would frequent such a shop if it were to open.
ReplyDeleteI bet it looks gorgeous after the work is done. I can imagine lights strung from above and a few chairs and tables set on the corner for coffee and pastries.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite from your blogs. All the wires make this photo interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think all people who have shops in this street will be very happy when the work will be ended...
ReplyDeleteLook at the power lines at the level of first floor. What a mess! I hope they bury them... But the street has all it takes to become a very touristy one!
ReplyDeleteIt worries me when I see cables hanging on walls, I can imagine this will be a very pretty street in a few months.

Charming, but, I would not want to be the risk management consultant on this -- too many trip hazards.

looks like a lot of work to be done. The buildings are quite colorful, what a pretty scene!
ReplyDeleteVery cool shot. What a neat place. I think I would like to be able to walk through there now, before it is done. I always worry that some of the awesome character will be lost when they do these types of renovations. I guess I will just have to keep coming back until you post the results Jilly!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Wayne
Très bonne idée ce reportage...les rues des villes du sud ont toujours beaucoup de charme pour nous gens du nord ;-))
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it'll be lovely when done up. It's pretty charming as it is.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to capture the street as it now is so that you will have something to compare it to when it is renovated and modernised :-)
