It's dark - perhaps there's a moon - the lights of Monte Carlo shimmer in the distance, the air is balmy. We take our places. Soon we'll have lights, music, action - let the magic begin...
...nice try. Brilliant sun light carefully pushed onto the left side. The rest is all nicely visible, and the "white out" hints at the brilliant light which is helping to fill the scene. (Similar lighting to a photo of Roquebrune in this week end's FT on property values....not cheap!).
Jilly, is the theater open year round? Can people just walk up there at their leisure? How wonderful it would be to be able to just walk up whenever you feel like and spend a few hours relaxing up there.
Fenix, the Open Air theatre is within the grounds of the Chateau and so is only open when the Chateau is open - or when there are theatre performances. So yes, you can go and sit there but you need to pay a small entrance fee. Worth it - I agree. I'm going up tomorrow and plan on taking a picnic and sitting on these benches. Need a few more pics to complete this Tour we are on.
Ming, the beach is an awful long way away - way way down and the road is quite a way too. I've never been bothered by road noises when watching a performance - other than perhaps a distant motorbike. Other places - for instance the Menton Music Festival, which has a similar situation - wonderful view - but is in the old town - held outside the main church - there you do hear traffic noises but the police usually stop motorbikes during the hours of a classical concert, for instance.
I just discovered your blog(s) today. I love your photos! I'll be back. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat place to be in and what a beautiful view.
ReplyDeleteI think I may get distracted from the play with that view. Awesome.

ReplyDeleteIt's so unfair. We face rain, fog and cold wind for at least four months.

Stunning
ReplyDeleteDennis says incredible!
ReplyDeleteGood thing the shows are at night. Who could concentrate on a show with a view like that?!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious, how is the accoustic at this open-air theater. I imagine the sounds of traffic and beach can be quite distracting.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! What a glorious view! I can't even imagine sitting there watching a program with that view!
ReplyDeleteI would certainly appreciate your posting a condolence message in my blogs today for the wife of a good blogger friend...
