Roquebrune village - 21

This is Impasse du Four, which means the Cul-de-sac of the Oven. This is where, in times medieval, the seigneurial oven would have been found. I'm adding the photograph below - I really don't know - but perhaps what we see behind the screen is the original oven.

  4. Bizarre question but what does Menton do about drains. Because of new French regs we have gone to mains drainage but I can't see any there and it all looks...protected, so?

  5. Interesting street scenes, looks like a wonderful place. I would really enjoy this type of oven to bake my breads in. I use our electric kitchen oven here at home. It works, but there is nothing beter than fresh baked bread in a wood fired brick oven. Today I baked my version of Panettone. Tomorrow, I bake French Boules. Oven is too short to bake proper baguettes.

  6. Answer to CLARICE : here is a little anecdote about drains. Years ago when I moved into my house it was not clear whether it was connected to the main drainage system of the village. The very elderly previous owner could not remember, the neighbours had no idea etc. so in the end I telephoned the appropriate department at the Mairie (Town Hall). I explained to the gentleman where I lived and asked if the house was connected. His answer ? "Madame, I am not a clairvoyant." !!!!!
    PS It turned out it was connected. My plumber's girlfriend's father worked at the Mairie and managed to find out.

  8. I feel as if I am wandering in Roquebrune today instead of staying indoors... This is so interesting--I'd like to see if the oven could be used to bake something.
