Fête du Citron: Corso - La Frustica

La Frustica is an Italian folklorique group. They've played in many places including New York. Click on this link to hear them on YouTube in New York City.

La Frustica started life with a small group of enthusiasts but has now grown to a very respectable size with a wind section and another section dedicated to typical local instruments, made out of a startling array of materials.

The Festival is extremely popular in Faleria, near Rome - their home base - a happy event with no social barriers or political content, a typical village celebration.

The orange and lemon float you see in the last photo represents Sicily.

  1. I am not sure if the ladies only look at the rear ends of men or if men only look at the rear ends of women, but I happened to look at these rear ends and saw vast differences in the amounts of material used in making the trousers they are each wearing. It looks like they all grabbed a pair and put them on and some got small pairs of trousers and some go large ones. I call your attention to the last one on the right side and the second from left as examples.

    The photograph is excellent.

  2. These chaps seem to be having an extraordinarily good time. The YouTube video catches the humour. Love the chap playing the scissors; and then there's the very expressive, bouncing bean pots. It looks as if one of them is playing a bellows? I feel better just having watched it. now...where's Faleria? and when's the festival?

  3. Abraham, I noticed the difference in the trousers too! And some of them taper, and some don't.

Anonymous, thanks for your comments. Faleria is near to Rome and I've now added that to the main copy. Thanks for the nudge. The festival is on the first Sunday in July.

  7. Leave Abe to his eccentricities....I'll just stay with the portrait (and the girl's legs.) ;-) Nice photos, Jilly. Imagine what will happen if you get that super-zoom.
