Not only a British car but a car with British number plates. An MG. I don't know the year but I'm sure someone will tell me.
My first car was an MG. A TA, I think, it was. Anyway it was registered in 1939 - cost me £80. I drove it around Chelsea with bare feet, a mess of hair on my head. We were called hippies in those days! I drove the car till it would go no further and couldn't afford to get it fixed. Should have kept it - be worth a fortune now.
I soooo want to see a photo of you in that car - bet you were gorgeous!!!!
ReplyDeletethis one sure is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteSomewhere, in the depths of half a dozen boxes, I've got that photograph. Goodness knows, what condition it's in tho. Bit like me! Never gorgeous, just bubbly...
ReplyDelete(Jules, spent one hour looking for that photograph. I think I know what album/folder it's in, but of course I can't find it).
Oh well, fortunes come and go. Your hippie days are over but the memories remain of your MG. I found that interesting.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, yes. We all have those lovely old car memories. "Magic moments" as it says in the song.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful car and lovely flowers, they make quite the pair!
ReplyDeleteLove that story! I remember a summer spent driving round in a mini moke - that was fun, but not QUITE the smae as an MG!
ReplyDeleteThis one is spectacular. I adore the lillies decorating it too.
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous red car! I gotta say though, I like this one better. What a beauty!!
ReplyDeleteAnother red one! I wish I could have seen you in your MG, hair in the wind...!
ReplyDeleteSo you were a genuine hippy then? what a marvellous time that must have been. The cars and flowers event has been a photographers boon, you've really cpatured the atmosphere so well.
ReplyDeletelol @ jilly the hippie with a mess of hair.
ReplyDeleteI second jules' bet that you were gorgeous in that car.
;-)
Jilly, what does that "Taxi No. 3" sign on the car mean? Do you know?
I'm with Jules! Well, not literally, but I wanna see the photo too.
ReplyDeleteLove this photo!!
Magnificent portrait
ReplyDeleteGreat car...I love it. I know how you feel about your car. We had a '61 Corvette with silver side panels. Wish we still had it! Yes, a fortune!!
ReplyDeleteInstead we have the two kids who replaced it, followed by two grandkids. Fair trade-off, don't you think?!
My car was a 64 Mustang orange convertible with black vinyl (I think) interior. It was second hand and pretty beat up. But it ran, and I had brothers who could fix it for me. And,it was all I could afford. I sold it to finance a move to NYC ... and now, it would be worth a fortune. Everyone now and then I see one on the street and wonder that was the one that had been mine. My father says if he ever hits the lotto, he will by me another one ... I think I'd rather move up the car chain!
ReplyDeleteA very pretty car and a fun photo! :-D
