This stallholder is selling wooden tools, electric plugs, bit of this and that. He's got an interesting face, hasn't he? Wonder what work he does? Presumably because of his interest in tools, he works with his hands. Maybe he works on boats?

It's a great portrait Jilly. One of the things I find interesting about it is the difference it makes if you crop out the bottom half, with the hands. It becomes a completely different photo. This of course is one of the perrenial talking points about photography - can it ever be said to be truthful. It's another reason I hate captions - with a caption you can make a photo mean anything you like.
ReplyDeleteThese are a nice series altogether around the brocante fair
ce portrait est magnifique, tu as su la prendre au bon moment. On dirait un vieux loup de mer.
ReplyDeleteHe reminds me a bit of Jacques Cousteau, the most famous Frenchman of my childhood. I wonder what he's looking at so intensely.
ReplyDeleteThey are.
ReplyDeleteFrom the clothing i would gather something with fish.
He looks like a fisherman who works part time fixing something related to fishing.
ReplyDeleteI love this photo. People photos are so interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have an update about my dog (and shoulder) on the blog today. Thanks for understanding the lack of comments lately.
I have to agree. I suspect something related to the Maritime industry or a fisherman. I love his expression, and I love that everything about him is very gray. Richard, interesting thoughts!
ReplyDeleteYep....you're doing well here. Fine series well produced. Glad to see you making the most of that lens.
ReplyDeleteYes, Jilly, so true: People are endless fascinating and once you realize that, you see beauty everywhere. As you obviously do...
ReplyDeleteI adore photos of real people and this is a particualrly good one. Such an interesting man with such an interesting story to tell no doubt!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe portrait is a darn good one. And the tool handles just give a hint about what his craft is all about -- leaving us to fill in the details from out imagination.
ReplyDeleteYou have a way with portraits, Jilly. I like this shot.
ReplyDeleteYes...he has such a great face, and you did him justice with this great photo of him.
ReplyDeleteThis photo captures the man's distinguished looks nicely. For a moment I thought of Jacques Cousteau.
ReplyDeleteI checked back here only to discover that I hadn't left the comment that said "This is a fantastic portrait" etc. Oh well.
