It wasn't till I saw it on the screen that I noticed the shadow of this Shar-pei puppy's owner telling the dog to 'sit' for me. He's four months old and just look at those wrinkles. As they grow and fill out their skin, the wrinkles diminish but I believe they are considered a better dog (show-wise) with more wrinkles. The folds need to be kept clean else they can get infected. The photo was taken at a Bring and Buy sale in Garavan, Menton.

(Still no Internet but posting from my neighbour's house now. Thankyou Agnès. Hopefully my connection will be back on by Wednesday.)

I must say and this photo confirms it, that most dogs, and even pups, are easier to train than most people, and the pups are much cuter.
ReplyDeleteThe shadow is what makes the photo, I think, though the pup is cute. I've had (along with Bibi) negative experiences with Shar-peis, though. I think they were originally bred as fighting dogs.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Bibi is right: it is the shadow that makes the photo complete.
ReplyDeleteThis pup is too cute but I have to say that I have never known a Shar pei to suffer from infected folds. Their skin is loose and free moving which lets the folds breathe.Bred for fighting...no they were originally used to herd farm animals and protect the owners and their land, fighting was an unfortunate side effect of chinese love of betting.
ReplyDeleteI adore this puppy though it's fur is immaculet!!
aw, this pup is adorable, though he doesn't look particularly attentive. He looks a little bored, lol!
ReplyDeleteToo cute!!
l'ombre est très bonne, bravo. photo culte ;o)
ReplyDeletethe shadow is very good, bravo. photo worship ;o)
Good dog! Good photo!
ReplyDeletei can't help laughing if i see a shar pei
ReplyDeleteFantastique photo ! Ah, ce regard !
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute well mannered puppy ... I had an English Bulldog when I was young and we took great pleasure in each others company ... Very impressive you are able to keep your post up with the Internet connection problem you are facing ... Give your neighbor a big thanks from all of us around the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat a classic photo Jilly. The command and obedience. I love the way Shar-pei puppies look. I've never actually seen one apart from on TV but they look adorable.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet puppy. My daughter has a Shar-Pei/Austalia Shephard mix...and he is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment today. Yes, we featured very different dogs, didn't we? There is a lot of humor in this photo with the dog who has too much skin sitting near an X, a symbol of prohibition, and your chastising shadow. Wonderful composition.
ReplyDeleteThis Dog photo is as good as Marie's Cat photo at Montpelier Daily Photo!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to give the doggie a big hug. He looks so cute.
ReplyDeleteI totally adore Sharpeis and have always wanted one! Great photo! Just look at him....he's so huggable!
ReplyDeleteThat's a marvelous combination of elements! The variations found in dogs are just astounding. I wonder what the pups would look like bred with a dachshund.
ReplyDeleteNot heard of a "bring and buy" sale for a long time.
ReplyDeleteit is easy to imagine cuddling this dog. would you cuddle someone if they had this many "folds"?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others - the shadow makes this picture awesome! The puppy is very cute, although I'm just not sure about all those folds... ;-)
ReplyDeleteCute puppy. The shadow photo of the owner giving instructions is great.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit like kids then - you get them their clothes three sizes too big to economise?
ReplyDeleteThat shar-pei puppy is soooo cute.
ReplyDeleteHe looks like he's wearing a fur coat :-) heh heh!
