Summertime in Menton - the Boat Trip - 2

We're off! We've left Menton behind - you see the Old Town on the left and the Port of Garavan, where we boarded, towards the right (you can see the red and white lighthouse, which is also in the smaller photo to the left). We are already in Italy.

We fly the Red Ensign. It is apparently etiquette to also fly the flag of the country you are in, so the small French flag, normally on the other side of the boat, has been taken down to be replaced by the Italian flag for the day.

Buongiorno Italia! Hold tight - we're going quite fast...

Lots of foam in the shot and it all looks clean and refreshing.

The wash of a boat is fun to watch. I was looking at this sort of thing down on our harbour during the weekend. Especially the churning that our ferries manage when they have to do a 360.

You have quite a range of blues in your photo today - sea, hills and sky. Quite relaxing to the eye ...

  5. Aquamarine blue water. Gorgeous. This is fun and we have a good group aboard. Somebody crack open the wine.

  6. Will you therefore lower the Red Ensign and hoist the 'Marina Militare' in its place, or does the British flag remain, with the Italian Naval Ensign on the side?

    That sea looks soooo inviting.

    Bon voyage et bon retour.

  7. Wow! I like the blue color. This photo is excellent!
Once I had a trip to the south of Iran, to Persian Gulf, I viewed such beautiful scene as well; but to be honest, this is more beautiful than what I saw and took the photo.

    Thanks for sharing Jilly.

  9. Look at that water...so blue. Oh oh, I forgot my Italian dictionary. I hope somebody on this boat speaks Italian. Are we there yet? [I promise I won't ask that again] :-)

  15. That was really interesting about flag ettiquette. W are so used to the Isle of Man flag flown all over the island that others tend to get overlooked. I will be keeoing an eye out now. Hav fun on your jolly jaunt.

  19. Aqua! I can't believe the colour of it. I love watching the wake of the boats. I used to ski so I am quite familiar with the wake from a speedboat. Lovely photo.
