This great looking guy was part of the recent Créole festival in Menton. I adore dreadlocks. If I come back in another life, I'll request, 'Rasta hair please.'
In the smaller photo, you see another guy with his dreadlocks pinned up.

Do you like dreadlocks?
Tomorrow - a gorgeous young beauty - and yes, her hair is worn in dreadlocks too. After that, we'll be over my dreadlocks obsession - and get back to the beach.
I'm a bit ambivalent. I like the really well tended plaits and corn-row styles, often with beads woven through, but am not keen on the matted, felty kind of look "crusties" prefer.

I think they would be terribly hot. They're obviously very sensible for those with very curly hair though.
ReplyDeleteAh, visions of Marley! Love the portrait which is full of character. The man looks intense and full of concentration. Also love dreadlocks because it is a cultural attribute.
ReplyDeleteNow I have to figure out why my signature has changed!!
ReplyDeleteI like the portrait. It looks natural to me and he wears it well.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Jilly! Wish we could have been at the Créole festival. Not a huge fan of dreadlocks yet the gentleman in your photo certainly wears them well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your tips on my blog.

I do like dreadlocks and this photo is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI scrolled quickly through some more of your shots and you do good work! The old pickup shot is priceless.
Cool shot! I love dreads too, but I certainly could not pull it off like these two men have. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love this terrific portrait. The young man is so interesting and his hair suits him. I am not a fan of dreadlocks, which I am sure comes as no surprise to anyone after my tattoo comments. Each to his own, as my grandmother wisely said.
ReplyDeleteYou have to have the right look and attitude to wear it well, as Abe put it. I have seen some men with dreads but they didn't seem to wear it as easily as others. Almost like they were too aware of it and of others looking at it (as in they enjoyed the attention). Anyway, I can't do dreads but they do kind of look cool, Jilly. My stepson always wanted to try them but didn't. He let his hair grown down to his shoulder and then that was it.
ReplyDeleteI do love dreadlocks - they are quite popular here in PNG too. I think you need a really interesting face to carry them off though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind message on my blog. The accident was horrific with a family devastated - their Mum killed, and her 2 teenage boys critically injured. The only saving grace - the youngest child got out with only scratches. Life is short so we must make the most of it everyday!!!
I'll agree with the majority I think: dreadlocks seem to work with certain faces but not others...they certainly suit this guy. I also like the contrast between his very clean, conventional shirt!
ReplyDeleteHi! You've inspired me to post a photo on August 9th showing a Serb with dreadlocks! Check my blog then!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college, I was in love with a grunge band called Counting Crows. The lead singer had dreadlocks and I declared to my room mates that I wanted dreadlocks too.
ReplyDeleteThey looked at me like I just lost my mind. Needless to say, I never got around to it.
