Summer's End - Rain

Gorbio village yesterday and it's raining. We're looking down over Menton to the sea - not that you'd not know it in the gloom. I went up to the village to photograph a Belgian film crew and as I got there, the heaven's opened. Goodness knows, we desperately need rain. Pity for them tho.

And someone's washing is getting wetter by the minute.

P.S. That was yesterday. Today the sun is shining as per usual. I'd hate for anyone to worry...

  2. Whew, that's a relief. We can't let our Monte Carlo have a bad weather day now can we!

  3. A wonderful photograph, Jilly! Only the observant eyes of an experienced photographer could "see" this. I'd rather have the mountain portion at the bottom of the picture cropped though. It would make a stronger composition. IMHO. Just my taste.

BTW, thank you for your comment on my 100th post today.

  4. And it poured down today though I was in Nice and the sun was shining brightly...That could have been my washing...

  5. I wonder how long you had to wait for a picture of rain really?? :-)

I suspect the washing is dry already too.

  6. Don't put away the swimsuits yet, eh? Rain or shine, I'd still love to be in Gorbio or Menton. Cheers!

  7. A powerful image, J. The tone of the clouds and the melancholy of the washing. The "soft" v. the "hard" of the steelwork. A good image to add to the wealth of Menton scenes you give us. (I'm with Eki re. the mountain).

  8. Eki - thank you so much for constructive comments. And Chuckeroon for agreeing with him. It didn't occur to me to crop the mountains - my idea being to show how gloomy it was when you can't see the sea. But goodness I see how right you and and I've now cropped and re-posted the image. A good lesson - thankyou so very much.

  11. Jilly, you take pictures during rainy day as, in Normandy, they take pictures of sunny days.
I don't worry at all about Menton weather! I do know you're so lucky compared to us.
