The Chef's Break


Everything is prepared for lunch - time for a break and a chat. This restaurant is at the Place du Cap in Menton.

    Abraham, I think he's wondering what the hell I'm doing taking his photograph. Can't really blame him!

    I have no idea if that's a Vespa or what it is. Perhaps someone else will know? I'm not very knowledgeable on motorbikes, which means I know nothing.

    The thing is I was actually standing a long way away, taking it with the zoom, so probably I wasn't being as invasive as it appears. (I was pretending to snap the building!)...

    Oh! We ate there last time we were over. Lovely lovely fat fresh Mussels! Hubby had rabbit, and said that was excellent as well.

    Friendly but fast service, full restaurant (when others alongside were nearly empty) says it is popular - I wonder if it is just tourists? Not many French voices, but it was beginning of October, so perhaps not to be surprised at?

    Josordoni - am so glad to read your recommendaton. I've never eaten here. I've eaten at the restaurant at the far end of this little area. Now I'll try this restaurant. I adore mussels. thanks!

    I wonder what delights await their lunchtime customers...in France, you can hardly go wrong...yum.

    Hi Jilly,
    That scooter is NOT a Vespa. Don't have a clue to the make, but might be a Honda or Suzuki judging from the look of the headset (handle-bars). However, like most scooters, it's lumped into the Vespa category simply because Vespa is the best known brand name.

    I don't think the guy in black is actually looking at you, rather his eyes seem focused on the man talking. It's always fun to catch people mid-gesture and natural. Lovely.

    Hope somebody gives you some flowers soon :)

    The chef deserves a break. That's one hard job. My son in law is a superb chef (a wonderful thing to have in the family) and he works his ass off. You captured the weary look on his face.

    The price for the menu du jour doesn't look to bad, now that the exchange rates have swung back in the other direction. My wife and I plan to be in Paris in April for our 35th anniversary. If things don't change much, we can afford something nice for the occasion.

    I love this photo because:

    (1) I love photos of people in their natural environment doing what they do every day, be it work or home;

    (2) it is not posed, it's natural;

    (3) the details of the background is just as fascinating as the two men in the foreground.
