Too many people at the Chestnut Fête - let's escape - let's wander the village.
Here we are in one of the main streets - you see a notice on the wall saying that Romain Gary, the French writer and diplomat lived here. He lived down this little
impasse with his wife of the time - the writer, Lesley Blanch. Romain died long ago but Lesley died only last year in Menton. Click on the link to see a photo I took of
Lesley on her 100th birthday.
Romain Gary était un grand écrivain et il avait crée un double "Émile Ajar". Il est le seul écrivain a avoir gagné deux fois le Prix Goncourt, sous deux identités différentes.
ReplyDeleteUne belle petite maison et rue
Thanks for this tour. Really enjoying it. Sorry I can't visit very often - I am very busy. I look but can't always comment. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand old dame! Anyone who can dress so colourfully and wear such ornaments and twiddle a glass of wine on her 100th birthday has my vote!
ReplyDeleteThe house is delightful especially all the grill work. What is it about a curve that intruiges?
The house is absolutely lovely and thanks for the link to your previous post - I saw the wonderful photo you took and read the obituary, both are just amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Olivier mentioned Romain Gary's double identity using pseudo Emile Ajar and winning the Goncourt literary prize twice, once under each name.
This is beautiful, I really like this spot! Great colour to contrast with the old walls.
ReplyDeleteJ'adore ce village, un vrai bonheur de s'y promener.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty village. What an amazing and vibrant woman.
ReplyDeleteGreat look! I love this village.
ReplyDeleteLoving this tour!
ReplyDeleteGlad Nathalie translated Olivier's comment for me. Must have had a considerable talent to achieve that double award.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful perspective. Love the orange.
ReplyDeleteSuch a home must encourage a long life, to be surrounded by simple, authentic, well kept structures.
ReplyDeleteSuperb portrait of her that you took Jilly. Lovely Roquebrune village. (sigh)
ReplyDeleteI well remember the photo of Lesley Blanch. Very nice as is this photo of the quaint street.
ReplyDeleteI love the burnt orange wall and the grillwork. Yes, the curve is so nice.
ReplyDeleteV
Don't forget that Romain Gary's second wife was the beautiful and tragic American actress Jean Seberg.
