Out of the Wind

Same windy day but now we are in Rue St. Michel - the pedestrian street of Menton. Catherine, a regular visitor to Menton, commented a couple of days ago - 'Go quickly and take refuge in Rue St. Michel!' - well, here we are, Catherine - the sun is blasting down and very little wind here.

This little bar is just before the walk up towards the entrance of the Old Town. Perhaps that's the proprietor shading his eyes. The man sitting is smoking a cigarette as you see from the puff of smoke.

  1. A good choice for B&W, Jilly! Interesting study when enlarged.

  3. Je connais cette rue, j'ai failli m'intaller là bas ....
J'aime beaucoup le noir et blanc aussi, surtout pour des scenes comme celle ci.

  4. ..lots to like in the last 3 shots, J. I like seeing Menton in winter looking slightly the same as a South coast sea side here in Summer ;-)

I think you've captured the atmosphere well in all three.

  5. Great study in B&W. I love the one man leading with his chin and the other with his tummy. But what were they looking at so intently?

  6. Brattcat, I'm ashamed to say I don't know what they were looking at. I snapped quickly and then turned around and continued walking - ie away from the direction they were looking. I can't imagine what it was because certainly nothing was obvious.

  9. Great black & white. I like this sort of street scene with people in B&W. It just makes the photo somehow. I guess its all to do with thw way the mind works!

  14. That's a perfect subject for black and white shot. It recalls me a scene of the old movie "Marius", I imagine the café owner surveying the café on the other side of the streets, speaking loud.....

    A great atmosphere again, here.
