In August Menton hosts a fabulous classical music festival
outside the beautiful Basilica in the Old Town. The festival started in 1949 and for its 50th anniversary in 1999, this mural was painted at the base of the steps that lead up into the Old Town and our place in the audience.
Note the lemons and also the Clef on her ear.

ReplyDeleteSo, 60th anniversary this year ! 60 years of music each summer to soften the evenings in August !
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Beautiful painting - makes walls cheerful:)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see a mural like this, I want to paint one. This is beautiful.
ReplyDelete(re clef on her ear)So you use the word Clef in English as a musical term? Now that's a surprise to me.
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense in French because it means Key, but it seems so out of context in English....
Anyway, a lovely mural for what must be a wonderful festival. I've seen the location and I can only think concerts at night there would be heavenly.
What a wonderful way to spend a summer. I look forward to the pictures I'm sure you will post of the festival
ReplyDeleteShe's lovely. Her posture, the flow of her gown, her expression. She really does set the mood for the music to come.
ReplyDeleteLovely colourful mural. Great way to celebrate the festival.
ReplyDeleteSuperbe peinture, je suppose qu'elle a été restaurée
