Theme Day: Glass...in Gorbio
Today is Theme Day in the City Daily Photo community with today's subject being 'glass.' We are inside the restored medieval Château in the hill village of Gorbio, near to Menton. Here we see a 13th century gemeled window through a pane of glass as we look out over village roofs. This beautiful Château is now used as an exhibition space.
Over a hundred people will be posting their interpretation of today's theme - you'll find many wonderful photographs taken with imagination and flair. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
I love this photo, Jilly. So beautiful and a great choice for Theme Day!
ReplyDeleteHi Jilly, happy theme day ... yours is a wonderful photo ... in fact I think it is the best of my theme day surfing so far ... I especially like where the light meets the shadow ... Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe depth of this image is disorienting and Escheresque. I will look up "gemeled": I am already pre-disposed by the shape and sound of the word - which is how language takes its hold of me.
ReplyDeleteGreat glass shot. Happy Theme Day.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. It really stands out in the thumbnails. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteLove the b&w and those shadows. Great choice, Jilly.
ReplyDeleteJulie, the French word, used when describing this window in Gorbio, is géminée. The translation is being gemel, or gemeled. I looked it up in the dictionary and found nothing - eventually after several web searches came up with lots of photos and always in 12th and 13th century buildings. Essentially a Gothic style window split in two. Gemel is not unlike the French word for twins - jumelle - which is how I believe it got translated.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jilly. My search indicated that it was a window with two sills ... a sort of medieval double-glazing, maybe ...
ReplyDeleteoops! Completely forgot about Theme Day....maybe I might just shuffle yesterday's along to today????
ReplyDeleteOh Jilly, this one is just perfect! Simple and perfect, in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know this word "géminée", so I've had to check in my dictionnary, thank you, thank you!
Have a good Sunday.
It's a unique and wonderful choice for the theme. Kudos!
ReplyDeleteMost interesting theme day photo, Jilly. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteOooooo, so nicely seen, Jilly. I love the way the arc of the shadow/sunlight completes the arch shape outside the window. Nice to see this in black and white, too.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a sunny, relaxing Sunday.

Wonderful shot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! It does look Esheresque, and the glass is definitely cleaner than some of my window glass now... :<(
ReplyDeleteSo many delicate echoes and reflections here. Beautiful, beautiful shot.
ReplyDeleteThe character of the place is so well worked into this shot, love it
ReplyDeleteI love the classic look of this and the arching of the window top. Excellent photo shot.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, so pretty...love this one too!
ReplyDeleteI love through-the-window shots, and yours captures the atmosphere perfectly.
ReplyDeleteBlack and white and glass.... very nice!
ReplyDeleteThis is PERFECT...
ReplyDeleteHappy 1st of the month.
Beautiful composition! Love it in b&w!
ReplyDeleteI love that you chose black and white for this Theme Day photo. I would blow this pic up and frame it. Beautiful composition, Jilly.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful choice in black and white! The glass is there, but it's not the point, is it? :-)
ReplyDeleteA gracious and appealing study in black and white. Wonderful photo!

Yes, this is really a wonderful photo, a great view-through. Black/white is a good choice here because the eye pays more attention for the structures (when there is no colour). And the structures and forms are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI really like the simplicity. Reminds me of a Matisse or something like that. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting photo for theme day, great choice. Its a real nice contrast.
ReplyDeleteThe window perfectly frames the photo.
ReplyDeleteLove the black & white photo.
A perfect B&W photo! Detail everywhere. I wish I could keep my windows that clean.
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous Jilly. It makes me want to be there.
ReplyDeleteA great view. I love the way you chose to portray in B&W
ReplyDeleteThe composition of this photo is perfect and the B&W is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous. That window cleaning act was one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. If he works for a company they should be ashamed of themselves, and may well find themselves prosecuted after a nasty accident. I hope nothign like that happens in peaceful Gorbio!
ReplyDeleteThat's so pretty! Good choice!
ReplyDeleteIt's more than just a window pane of glass; it has a scene that heightens the whole vision.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is perfect in so many ways. It's perfect for the theme, of course. It's perfect as a "Menton Daily Photo" shot because it could not have been taken anywhere else." and it's a perfect photo. Just perfect.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really beautiful photo in it simplicity.
ReplyDeletethis is a stunner!
ReplyDeleteThe old charms of this medieval chateau can be felt through your photo! Bet it must be very spectacular during its days of glory!
ReplyDeleteHappy Theme Day, Jilly!
Absolutely superb, Jilly! You surely know when to choose b&w. Classic.
ReplyDeleteWonderful choice Jilly. I've also particularly loved the B&W !!!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo, and well done on the tonal range. Swing by my blog tomorrow if you get a chance :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, no update on the girls?
