Bloggers who climb Trees

What do bloggers do when they meet on the French Riviera? Why, they climb a 2000 year old olive tree in the medieval village of Roquebrune, of course!

In this ancient olive tree, meet, from left to right - Richard from Zurich, Nathalie from Avignon, Chuckeroon from Richmond-upon-Thames and Peter from Paris.

(Smaller photo: Richard, Nathalie, Peter, Chuckeroon)

For other views of this amazing tree and to read its history, please click on the link.

From tomorrow on this blog
- and for the next couple of weeks - you'll be able to see photographs of Menton through the eyes of these talented photographers. Today, on Monte Carlo Daily Photo see Nathalie's vision of the casino.

Fabrizio from Turin was to have been here too but sadly, at the last minute, he couldn't make it. We missed you, Fabrizio and do hope you can make it next time.

  10. Some how it feels almost as if the entire CDPB community is there with you as we view these photos. The joy of life is there on the faces of the photographers, a joy many of us share as we move through our little worlds, documenting them with photographs.

  12. It looks like a fun group. Natalie, lucky girl to be surrounded by those handsome men. Or perhaps they are the lucky ones to be with you and Jilly.
Wonderful that your get-together was a success.

  13. What a fun weekend. I look forward to the photos. You and Nathalie both spent time in australia, as I recall, before ending up in France, so I am sure you had lots in common. That brings up an observation. I wonder how many City Daily Photo bloggers are transplants to their locale. Perhaps they look at their location with a fresh perspective because things that seem ordinary to natives are distinctive to transplants.

  16. What a great time you all had!
    Was the weather perfect?
Did you speak mostly french or mostly english or mostly frenglish?
Did you stay around Menton and Monte Carlo only?
    How fun!

  17. To answer a few questions, the weather was excellent. In fact, rain had been forecast so we were lucky. It was never a perfect blue sky - sometimes a little cloud here and there but more often hazy but no one seemed to mind. We had shadows for our photography but not deep shadows.

Maria, two people stayed with me and two in an hotel in Garavan, Menton. We spoke English, except for Peter and Nathalie, who spoke French when they were alone - but all together, we spoke English.

Dave, I have often wondered the same thing. Perhaps when we live in a country that isn't our own, we have a more objective view of our adopted city or town, but truly I don't know if this is true or not.

For me, it was an amazing weekend, to meet four fabulously interesting and just plain 'nice' people, all great photographers. We had such fun and personally I learned tons about photography, I'm just grateful everyone made the trip and sure hope it happens again.

Bibi, on the day these photos were taken, we went back to my place for lunch - just a buffet spread on the table and then we went to Gorbio later.

  18. Hello I have just called in via Peter in Paris...what a wonderful place you live, oh those views from your balcony. :-)

It is so great when Bloggers meet up...on the 14th April a friend and I went to Paris, for a week and we met up with 12 others, not all bloggers, but expats too! A couple (married) came from Australia, via America and then from Paris to England, and my friend and I from Oxfordshire..We had the most brilliant time, I never thought it would happen to me, and I saw places I never thought about..truly wonderful.

My husband is off to Monaco on Sunday, works for Formula1 team, race is the following sunday! Wish I was going too!

  26. A 2000 year old olive tree is gorgeous as bloggers who climb this tree.

    Fantastic!

    I'm glad to visit you!

  27. Oh, I am SO with you all, right there. How wonderful to meet and spend a weekend photowalking, meeting Jilly, and enjoying her beautiful surrounds. I am just catching up with my photo friends' adventures and see I will be having quite a treat to see all of your impressions of Jilly's home diggs. She does such a wonderful job, but your fresh eyes will probably give a bit of a twist or slant on things. You all look splended, BTW, and so good to see you there having fun!
