Tiny balls made of wood and perfumed and for sale in the pedestrian street of Menton. Perfect to put in your wardrobe, chest of drawers or in the car. When the aroma disappears, you simply douse them with a few more drops of perfume.Note the bowls - these are a typical design and colour of this region.
These are fascinating. I wonder what make the wood retain the odor of the perfume? Do you know what wood they're made of...?

ReplyDeleteKate, I'm guessing it's olive wood as that is something often used and sold here. These balls were in liquid perfumed with some aroma, but I suppose that was to entice shoppers. Perhaps it's rather like cedar is used to keep woolens fresh.

ReplyDeleteSergio, they were in perfumed water and I think that's the only way wood would absorb perfume. Perhaps you can just sprinkle drops on. I'm not really sure and next time I pass I'll ask!
