Real Fish - The Knife and the Rope

The fisherman's wife, I believe. But what is she doing with the knife against the rope. Does anyone know? She was scraping it back and forth, rather as one would to sharpen a knife - but on rope?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone across the pond!

  2. Dunno. If she were cleaning the rope, I'd think she would use a wire brush....ask her?

    I love the fish!

  3. Bibi, you are right, of course, I should have asked her. Sometimes I don't like to speak to people because it then makes them self-conscious and spoils the moment. But right, afterwards I should have asked. Next time I will!

  6. Cleaning the knife is the most likely explanation, but wouldn't that leave fish residue on the rope, which would make the rope smelly?

  10. Thanks, Luc. She seemed to be back and forth with the blade too long for it to be simple cleaning of the knife. Wouldn't she simply hose it off? One day I'll find out for sure.

  12. If she's sharpening her knife, the rope probably has no other purpose than that. Perhaps some tiny shells attached to it help sharpen the blade?

Great photos of the fish and of the lady's profile.

  13. Maybe she's trying to liberate herself from that job. ;)
J/k... maybe the fringes somehow make things less efficient. Who knows?
