A Rare Occurrence
Snow is so rare on the Côte d'Azur that today we're taking a break from our walk through Roquebrune village.
Snow on the mountains in normal, but I've never had it settle in my garden before. Here you see snow on the Prickly Pears this morning. The steep track up the road is solid ice and snow, so for the moment I'm snowed in but the sun is shining and hopefully most of it will have melted before nightfall. Earlier I had no water - presumably the water counter at the top of the track was frozen but now - 11 a.m. - it's running again.
All very boring to anyone used to snow, but so unusual here. The dogs are mystified...and having the best fun.
To see snow in Casino Square in Monaco please click on the link - great photos thanks to my friend Maggie Calkins.
enfin une photo de froid à Menton nous finissions par être jaloux
ReplyDeleteOh, the poor plant! I hope that it hasn't frozen. Your ice and snow, even of short duration, will help you understand why now, after a lifetime of the same, we try to flee to warmer climates.
ReplyDeleteJilly - what great colours. I love the difference in snow textures in the top photo. The cactus looks like a mittened hand with glowing fingers!!
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought you were trying to destroy the cactus by pouring salt on it.
ReplyDeleteI should have realised. That smaller image is a bit like beauty and the beast.
I am off to Monaco - unusal for me.
Hi! No... Not boring at all! A nice surprise. Interesting to see, I love the contrast and the colours!
ReplyDeleteMaybe a motive for your Christmas cards?
Barbara from Germany
I would imagine nearly everyone in Roquebrune is mystified and perhaps a bit enchanted, too. I hope you enjoy the magic of it while it lasts.
ReplyDeleteSnow on the cactus...yes! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSnow on a prickly pair is definitely worth a photo and a post. Julie and I were in Santa Fe a few weeks ago and woke up to a covering of snow. Naturally, we had to go out and get some photos.
ReplyDeleteI love that purple tree in the Square with whiteness all around. Even for us, who see it ALL the time, it's magical at night w/ lights.
ReplyDeleteI understand completely. I"ve been posting snow photos from our morning two weeks ago. I think it's lovely and want to see more of yours please! Snow on a cactus. How fun!
ReplyDeleteV
That must have been a bit of a surprise then. My garden is very white since a few days but that is to be expected.
ReplyDeletehow delightful! The 1st photo looked really intreguing - took me a bit to figure it out. I've been wishing for snow...but alas, I'll have to go to it instead of it coming to PV. my husband remembers it snowing for a bit when he was in middle school.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see this. I've never seen snow on the cacti in Arizona. Great color with the snow on the green cacti.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots! Enjoy your rare occasion!
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine the mystification those dogs are experiencing. Snow for the first time? Priceless!!
ReplyDeleteI imagine the thrill to wake up and watch this...Take care Jilly when you drive !
ReplyDeleteAce snap,J!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Wonderful. This is a lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteHow bizarre. It's snowed in Houston according to my dinner company tonight, in Birmingham according to Virginia, on the Riviera, for heaven's sake, but not in St. Louis. By the way, the thumbnail reminded me of the Monty Python episode about the blancmange.
ReplyDeletegosh snow on cactus isn't something that happens often here lol
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted Jilly, we'll be there on Friday, we're snowed under here in Brussels, the last thing we want is to arrive in snowed under Menton, we would just cry ;-(
ReplyDeleteIt's raining and cold, Rocteur and snow is pretty much melted - at least around here. Let's hope it warms up for your visit. I usually have Christmas on the terrace but this year things might be different...
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for your visit.
Thanks very much Jilly!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure for you!
ReplyDeleteJilly that top photo is a gem. You worked magic with the light, and the composition is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been quite a sight, your garden under snow! I trust this was just one of the many photos you took on that day. We didn't have that much in Avignon!
