Fête du Citron: Cinema - Marilyn

It's that time of year again! The Fête du Citron (Lemon Festival) is upon us. Each year there is a Theme and this year it's 'cinema.' The adverts say 'Menton fait son cinema' which, by way of explanation, has a double-meaning - faire du cinema means to put on an act, to make a song and dance about it, to show off etc.

Here, we see Marilyn Monroe, of course, and a second Marilyn to wave at the crowds.

  2. Glad the festival is on, despite your recent cold spell. Is it still chilly? Marilyn look okay in her light dress.

  3. I think maybe Marilyn has goosebumps. But I'm awfully glad to see her. I was afraid the festival would be cancelled because of the snow and cold. It's so good to see that gorgeous citrus. Makes me want to pad down to the kitchen and peel an orange.

  5. You need a hairdryer blowing that dress up ! ;-)))

(and very unkindly I'll say I'm not overly impressed with Marilyn's in flesh double...)

  6. There was a machine permanently blowing the dress up, Nathalie. And I agree with you about her double - she wasn't that happy either but frankly it was SO cold I'm amazed any of the girls coped.

  7. You and Nathalie said it, so I don't have to! Not easy to pretend to be the copy of MM!
Still a bit fresh, but the snow and ice is gone?

  8. Peter, the snow has gone although there are still a few pockets in the shady areas of my garden. None in Menton tho but it is cold and last night it rained. Winter is taking too long to go away. When I took the shots there was a one hour window of sun, after that, without sun I think the performers must have been incredibly cold. I was and I wore loads of layers.

  9. Wish I was there to smell the fresh citrus fruits!
I wonder what they will do with all these oranges + lemons after the parade?

  10. Barbara, they sell off the remaining fruits that are still good - for people who want to make wine or jam.
