A Thousand Kisses...
Fancy getting rid of that dead skin on your feet? Easy - give the 'cleaner fish' some lunch!
This is the first 'Fish Spa' on a beach in France (Les Sablettes in Menton) and is advertised as an ecological way to clean your feet with a 'thousand kisses' from the 'massage' or 'doctor' fish. It costs 10 euros for 15 minutes. 18 euros for two adults. 5 for a child and if you want an hour it will cost you 28 euros. The water is treated constantly with ultra violet light to keep it clean - this also makes the fish sterile.
Fish Spas are a fashionable treatment to be found in Japan, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the USA and the Philippines, usually in beauty parlours or attached to aquariums. It's not a new idea - the most famous is the Kangal Spa in Turkey which has been in operation since the early 1900's.
I asked if the fish are fed and the guy said he gives very little food as the best nourishment for them is dead skin.
Would you have a 'Fish Spa' treatment?
cela doit faire des chatouilles ;o)) j'adorerais ça (tant que c'est pas des piranhas ;o))
ReplyDeleteIt looks a good natural way to get rid of dead skin.
ReplyDeleteCostas
yes definitely ! this looks fantastik - I have never heard of this - but it must tickle eek !!
ReplyDeleteDianne
tickling shot : )
ReplyDeleteIt just seems like something is wrong with this scene. Who eats the fish? LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat capture! Can you imagine an hour of it? Those would have to be some seriously flaky feet. And a person with a tolerance for the tickle of fish kisses.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind giving it a try (lol).
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!! I would definitely do this! Even if it tickles.
ReplyDeleteI think I would try it. There actually was one the opened in Phoenix not long ago but, the health department closed them down almost immediately. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this just to know how it feels.
ReplyDeleteHave tried this a couple of times in asia. Feels decidedly weird.
ReplyDeleteMOI!!! That said I'd be twitching and giggling since I'm very ticklish on my feet. When I get a pedicure I can hardly stand for them to scrub the bottom of my feet. May the fishies would be easier pour moi. After a week in Paris walking non stop I soooo need it.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is so strange but very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI can't quite fathom this one!!!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely be ready for a try. Did you go for it?
ReplyDeleteYes, Jilly, did you do it? I think my reaction would be much like Virginia's, but I'd have to try it, just to find out if I liked it. As long as I know the fish are enjoying it, too, it seems fine to me.
ReplyDeleteThat top picture is stunning, superb and completely bizarre. You were channeling Dali and Magritte when you took this.
ReplyDeleteI've never hears of this, certainly never seen in in the US, Japan, China or Thailand. Might try it if there were something else in the bargain for me. I can clean my feet in the shower for a lot less than 10 euros.
Je ne crois pas que je suis prete...
ReplyDeleteLa 1ere photo par contre est parfaite
No explanation needed!
Oh how fun -- well that is as long as it was like a thousand kisses.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!

Ever since reading about this a few years ago, I've been curious. Would definitely try it. How'd you get that first shot? Along the back of the foot the fish look a little insect-y. Maybe I wouldn't look while I had it done.
ReplyDeleteI didn't try it because I was whizzing off to photograph the Arabian horses, but I will have a go one day. People sat there and giggled - it must tickle!
ReplyDeleteJilly the idea is fun enough but your photos, your photos!!!! That top one is just so perfect! The toes spread out are so much fun!
ReplyDeleteIt does take all three photos to get the full picture but you were so right to start with that top one, it draws immediate attention, stupendous!
Nathalie is right ! What an excellent top picture !
ReplyDeleteEach of us must have been wondering where did you want to bring us, Jilly.
Curiosity.
No kidding! They do that??
ReplyDeleteYour great photos make it look fun.
Doesn't it tickle?
ha, I've heard about this and would love to do this.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the fish are sterile. I assume their moms and dads are elsewhere, making more baby skin-eating fish?
A shop with such fish tanks opened in Avignon just before the festival. I'm not sure if many theatre-goers stopped there on their walks from one theatre to the next but the setting is nowhere as fun as yours !
ReplyDeleteIt's a dark shop whereas the beach setting seems just right for that type of activity. And I doubt I'll ever get a photo as good as yours. Several months later I still LOVe it!
