Ventimiglia Old Town - Road Works

It's one thing to live in the Old Town of Ventimiglia - it's quite another to dig up the roads. The passageways and streets are narrow so all the materials - and the rubble - is moved about in a small machine. Boards are slung across narrow sloping streets. It's time-consuming work. The guys were great and as soon as they saw me taking photos, they stopped work and wanted their photo taken. Oh those Italians!

  1. Wow!!! never thought about road work in those narrow streets throughout Europe!!! And I thought it's inconvenient when they close down a lane here in California!!!

I never would have thought, or even dreamed, about having to tear up a cobblestone street. Especially in old historic places, surely, they could string the have-to-haves along some other way -- like virtual reality. LOL

Can you imagine having to tear up the cobblestone roads the Romans built? That would be akin to yanking the dingy off Michaelangelo's David.

And thank you for the comment on my vacation, many years ago. Here is what I said to you about that back there under your comment...

    √ Reply to Jilly...
Thanks Jilly. You are one of my favorite people and one of the best photographers around. I think you already know that but sometimes coming from somebody else, it feels more like a pat on top of the head.

  3. Jilly, you have such a special way about you. To get those wonderful smiles from those hardworking men. I think you must enchant all of your subjects with your magic.

  4. Oh I agree. Jilly is a world class "charmer". Just don't go charmin' the dingy off Michaelangelo's David as Abe said! HA

  6. This is tricky. It reminds me, sort of, of how well some tourist buses maneuver on some small European streets. Not this small, though!

  7. Reminds me of the works in rue longue a while back. I hope they come up with a nicer result!
