The Basilica was packed - standing room all around the sides. Not the greatest photos 'cos I needed a tripod and next time will take one. Strangely if you go on a guided tour of the church you are not allowed to take photos, yet if you go to an event in the church such as this, then everyone and his mother is taking photos.
You can see the effigy of Saint Pierre in front of the altar.
Isn't this an utterly beautiful church...
Beautiful church, people and photos.
ReplyDeleteAlas, a disadvantage of having a better camera and lenses is that they are heavier and harder to hold still in low, indoor light.
Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo good that this event allowed you to take photos inside. Yes, it is a beautiful church, so full of light.
ReplyDeleteVery good photos and that church is a stunner. I have a light-weight monopod I often use...it helps steady your camera and isn't as cumbersome as a tripod.
ReplyDeleteStunning!

I have no complaint about the quality of these images. The first shot looks like a scene from a movie...it has such a cinematic quality. And the interior of the church has a surprising delicateness.
ReplyDeleteNice to see the altar where my Mother received her Holy Communion. It's great to see traditions are still honored.
ReplyDeleteOh it is! I would love to go on a guided tour of the church, even if photos weren't allowed.
ReplyDeletea timeless image that makes me feel I am there. i much prefer taking images of events occurring in churches as it gives such life to the church
ReplyDeleteJilly, I love the light in this church and your photos give a good sense of the life in the community -- The series this week has been fabulous with the costumes, the traditions, the colors. Thanks for giving us the feeling of actually being there.
ReplyDelete(Wish I was!)
Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, Jilly, this is tuly a magnificent church and I think your photos are just right. Whenever we come to Menton we visit the Basilica at least once, light a candle, and sit quietly with our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteA glorious space but I cant put my finger on the architectural style. Ornate candelabras in the nave are not common in great Catholic churches.
