Agapanthus are everywhere in Menton at the moment. In the photo below you see them in the beautiful gardens of the Serre de la Madone. The close-ups - and going to seed - are in my garden in Gorbio.
This is a South African plant that is more than happy in the south of France. It's a member of the lily family, hence the common name of African Lily or Lily of the Nile.
That's not the only thing going to seed at the moment!!
ReplyDeleteI like this plant. Especially here in Sydney as it blooms close to the time when the Jacarandah is also in bloom. Lovely colouring ...
I've wondered what these are. They have them here, too. And today is ABC Wednesday 'A'. You could join!
ReplyDeleteIts nice to see our agapanthus plants flourishing in France. I believe they are a pesky weed in New Zealand where they tend to take over and invade natural areas.
ReplyDeleteAh... the delicate flower set against the harsh stone. I like it!
ReplyDeleteSo this is what those flowers growing in the pot in my backyard are supposed to look like. Mine bloomed with 5 big beautiful blooms earlier this year. I believe it was March or April. I put a photo of it on my site and asked for help identifying it because I had no idea what it was. It's great to see so much of it growing in gardens. They really are beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteI love Sharon's comment. My yard is going to seed and i think I am too! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, Jilly. I love the sun and the shadow.
ReplyDeleteI have one of these in my front garden! Now I know what it's called, thanks to you.
ReplyDeleteWe have Agapanthus all over California too. I have quite a few in the yard. The surprising thing I found this year was how forgiving they are. I dug a bunch up, to plant something else, got busy and forgot to replant the the dug up Agapanthus for a couple of days. Not only did they survive, they still bloomed where I re-planted them!
