I also like the black and white. Sad though, that there are so many young smokers these days. It's like they refuse to think/care about the consequences.
They have probably heard the rumour that it will keep them thin, sadly it's more likely to kill them in the long run. I smoked for many years but giving up that bad habit was one of the best decisions I have ever taken.
I think these intelligent girls have been looking at Jilly's photo of the scratch-dial: 'You who pass through Gorbio, stop and consider: your final hour is upon you'. In which case... whyever not? Anyway, it's a great stress reliever - unlike arguing about it, which I find very stressful indeed. And stress is the real killer...
The rampant smoking in France is about the only thing I dislike about the country. I'll say this, though, somehow French women manage to look sexy instead of trashy when they smoke.
Nice captures; love the black and white unposed photos.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth : )
Good question - does any of us really know? Pains of growing up..
ReplyDeleteHowever, the photography is great, though.

Good question! My guess, because somehow, our entertainment system and media have made it look cool.

ReplyDeleteDon't know why they do but wish, wish, wish they didn't.

ReplyDeleteJilly, great portrait and character study. Your photos tell such amazing stories! Merci
ReplyDeleteWhy does anybody smoke? I think it's a disgusting habit and worst of all, it bothers everybody else.
ReplyDeleteAside from my rant, I do like these photos, especially the first one, which makes me think of an Italian film of the 50's.
Lovely portraits although I too am amazed at how many young people smoke in Paris especially. Such a shame.

It's all about 'coolness'... always has been.
ReplyDeleteBirdman, I agree, but after all we know about smoking now, does anyone still think it's cool??
