The Couple

This sculpture stands in the gardens of the Palais Carnoles, Menton's Museum of Fine Art. It's called Couple and was sculpted in 1987 by Robert Juvin, a sculptor who fought with the resistance in the war and was later awarded the Croix de Guerre.

  1. That is so sweet. I thought 'Brancusi' when I first saw it. I would like a copy of this sculpture....

  3. They look sad, and there is a tenderness to this stone sculpture.

    Quite striking and provocative.

  4. It is about all the stone I could ever chisel away. Nice. I like the simple lines though old Michael Angelo would turn over in his grave for my not finishing it.

  5. How beautifully he articulates with the lines of this sculpture the deep need we have as humans to hold and be held, to be compassionate and accept compassion.

  7. I thought of Brancusi as well when I saw this sculpture. There's a vulnerability and gentleness to this work that is really moving. It's amazing how the sculptor could convey this with such simplicity.

  8. I think BC captured it all for me. Love simplicity when it encompasses such worldly desires.

  11. It is a beautiful sculpture. My interpretation is the woman has just told the man she is pregnant with his child and that is why his hand is gently touching her belly.
