Studio 29

Summer is almost over but a few visitors remain. It's 22h00 at a bar near Place du Cap.

This is for my friend Catherine in Paris who remembers this bar when it was called l'Alba.

  3. Perhaps it is called Studio 29 because the people who patronize the place feel like they are still 29.

  7. Rob and Mandy, it means wine bar. It's really a simple place - a lounge bar is perhaps a little more comfortable! Having said that, give me this anytime! it's a great place to sit and watch the world walk by.

  8. It looks like a lovely place to take a stroll to in the evening after dinner perhaps and enjoy a small glass of wine with some friends.

  9. Jilly,
If I am not mistaken, this bar was called the Eden when I lived there in 2003. It had a rather seedy reputation then, enhanced when the proprietor shot one of his regular customers - dead! There were several versions of his motive. I think he got 9 years. It caused quite a stir in Menton which had not recorded a murder for 3 decades. Of course, it had to happen when I was hosting a lady from my book club in Omaha. I was extolling the absence of violent crime when we heard the sirens. We had to walk around the crime scene tape to get to our apartment on the Rue Longue and passed again to go to dinner just as they were wheeling out the deceased. The bar has changed management a number of times since then. I had an aperitif there on my last visit and it was very nice. There are probably some old timers who miss the rougher hang out for the "riverains" though.

  10. Yes I remember that murder. Quite a stir as you said. The patron just lost it and killed his customer. I recall the nine years too.

That's a story with your Omaha visitor. My goodness!

  12. Roving is wool that has been combed, washed, carded and twisted in preparation for spinning. Beautiful post, Jilly.

Now the place is even more enticing, to think when I visit next year, I can write while I sip and sit, and pen a short story about this place -- fiction of course.
