The Umbrella or Stone Pine is such a typically Mediterranean tree. You see a lot of them on
Promenade Le Corbusier which is the beach walk between Cap Martin and Monaco. The tree's Latin name is Pinus Pinea and it produces the pine nut which of course is a major element in that wonderful sauce we eat on pasta called
Pesto Alla Genovese. I usually buy my pesto sauce at Menton's market or across the border in Latte or Ventimiglia.
As a tree fanatic I will have to like this one.
ReplyDeleteI know these trees and I love pine nuts. Excellent composition here.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy pine nuts. This photo captures both beauty and strength. Great job, Jilly.
ReplyDeleteI have six packets of my homemade pesto (with pine nuts) in the freezer, waiting for special occasions throughout the winter to break out the taste of summer. This tree looks very Seussian to me.
ReplyDeleteIt is a characteristic tree of the Mediterranean landscape Jilly.
ReplyDeletegreat photograph.

A spectacular photo, Jilly. I've never seen this tree. Funny that it's so grand and the pine nut so tiny! But thank goodness for it. I do love my pesto.
