The Sphinx represents another of the 'Grandes Civilisations' - that of ancient Egypt. This is the largest of the displays in the Jardin Bioves.
The oranges and lemons, by the way, are sold off at the end of the festival and made into jams, wine and liqueurs.

ReplyDeleteThat's a superb construction. I would love to see this festival in person one day.
ReplyDeleteBTW, yesterday someone gave me a bouquet of mimosa!
I did not know they had made something so impressive this year! The perspective from above is gorgeous! (Were you on the little bridge above the street?)
ReplyDeleteMalyss, yes. I posted it so it shows the size in relation to the people around it. They always have the biggest motif in this position in the gardens.

ReplyDeleteWOW! this is totally spectacular.
Love the way you photographed this float, gives us a good idea of the scale.

I have been folowing your posts from "la fete de Citron" Jilly.
ReplyDeleteEvery single one is so beautiful.
Have a great day.

I have gone back to the post in which you showed how these citrus fruits were linked together so perfectly... amazing that they could make one this large! Stunning colors provided by nature... oh, and I like your sidebar orange-slice clock!
ReplyDeleteBises,

Wow....amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis is spectacular, Jilly. It seems like this festival is even more grandiose than the others. I remember seeing tour buses lined up all the way to Italy during the lemon festival. Over 250,000 people visited that year, but it never seemed too crowded. Menton really knows how to put on a show.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful likeness of the Sphynx. I wonder how long it takes them to make the displays. And, it is good to learn that the fruits are not wasted after the festival ends.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll have a glass. Your sphinx has a nose, unlike the original. I've been talking about Egypt in my last couple of posts but nothing quite so fun.
ReplyDeleteGreat location in the centre of the perspective of jardin Biovès - it suits the sculpture's impressive grandeur.
ReplyDeleteSince Egypt has been so much in the news, this is a great sculpture.
ReplyDeleteWas it the foot of the sphinx behind the fashionable young mademoiselle the other day?
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to see these, and this one is great.
