  2. What are strawberry seeds 'set' within: a follicle, or a dimple, or ...

Gorgeous colour, Jilly, but also texture and light. Are the bruised ones all hidden underneath?

  5. I wonder where the strawberries come from, and if they were locally grown, where did the workers who picked them come from.

In Costa Rica, many of the workers who pick crops are Nicaraguans. I was at an immigration solutions conference yesterday in Arizona and someone asked the representative of the agricultural industry why he did not hire Americans to pick crops. He replied that in 45 years of farming, he has never found Americans who will last more than a couple of days picking melons in 110 degree (40 C) heat.

  8. The ones I buy in France come from Carros, which is just a few miles north of Nice, a well-known local area for great strawberries.

  9. They are gorgeous, Jilly, and I'll bet they taste wonderful. In Connecticut, we won't see native strawberries until July or August.

  12. I can taste these by looking at your photo and remembering those I recently purchased at the Farmers Market and enjoyed popping into my mouth.
