Vernissage in the Village - Michel Houssin
Each summer, the Mayor of Gorbio invites an artist to exhibit at the Chateau alongside the permanent Collection Raza-Mongillat. It was during a stay in Avignon that our mayor, Monsieur Isnard, discovered the work of artist Michel Houssin who has devoted the past 30 years to the art of drawing. He believes that colour camouflages reality. The exhibition is called Humanity and interestingly the portraits all have numbers - the subject's social security number. In the main photo, the artist talks about his work.
Click on the video to see Monsieur Hussain in his studio (French only) - he's got a nice little dog.
Tomorrow - the speeches - there are always speeches...

Hi Jilly, gosh it must be so fantastic to be so talented, some artists make it look so easy.
ReplyDeleteSo very talented artist and thank you for the video of master at work!
ReplyDeleteMagnifique, magnifique.
ReplyDeleteMerci Jilly pour ces photos et pour la vidéo. Ca donne vraiment envie de venir voir l'expo.
Your first photo in b&w is really good and cleverly sticks to the artist's idea that colour is distracting. In fact it's true that the colour portrait below brings nothing more - it probably could have been in b&w too, just to stay in the same logic.
ReplyDeleteVery nice entry... an interesting topic and lots of info. Love the b&w photos and the video. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeletelove the dog, love the rug (i have the same in my office), love watching him at work, love your photograph. a homerun of a blog entry today.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt he is a master draftsman. I am curious to know if he works exclusively in graphite pencil.
ReplyDeleteJust love that first photo, Jilly--your point of view, and the light! There was more than one artist in that room.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for introducing me/us to this artist; love the video!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, they seem scary faces of Cesare Lombroso doctor lived in 800 he thought he could deduct the ability to commit a crime through the facial
ReplyDeleteTalented indeed! I would love to stand close and take in every detail of these portraits. His view of "color" reminds me of a quote I found by a photographer:
ReplyDelete"When you photograph someone in color, you photograph their clothes. When you photograph someone in black and white, you photograph their soul." This artist has certainly done that! Your portraits of him are excellent as always too Jilly.
