one of the most beautiful towns on the French Riviera
Of course there is no roof. It fell the day the earthquake struck the village in 1887.

Evidemment, il n'y a plus de toit. Il s' est effondré lors du séisme qui a frappé le village en 1887.

Your first pic is very dramatic, with the dark sky behind..I like this place more and more!
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed this series. The picture of the broken cherub was really atmospheric with a touch of the grotesque!
ReplyDeletethese make my heart beat faster. marvelous images, jilly.
ReplyDeletei love the sunlight foreground against the darker clouds in the background. This shows that you can sometimes get better photos on a cloudy day than a clear day.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the top photo is breathtaking with that brooding sky.

It seems fitting that a church should be open to the sky.
ReplyDeleteYour top photo today is marvelous. It fits a damaged and roofless church.
ReplyDeleteWith all that I have read now about this place I knew that there was no roof, but nothing prepared me for the striking image of that first photo. The angry skies seem to go with the mystique of the village.

What a sky! Thank heavens for the mountains that keep most of these angry clouds away from Menton.
ReplyDeleteThat dramatic sky was an absolute bonus. SDP on tour will get to Bussana soon!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo. I'm curious how the church bell tower remained standing while the roof fell in! Maybe there's a painting in the "sky" photo? :-)

Jilly how spectacular. The top photo with its dramatic sky is a perfect match for the one from the inside where you caught the entire sky space enclosed by the four walls.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but feel my heart sink when I think of the day the roof fell inside the church.
