Bussana Vecchia - Frescoes
Even though these frescoes have been somewhat protected from the weather since the church lost its roof in 1887, it amazes me that their colours are still so vibrant.
Bob Crowe from St. Louis Daily Photo and his 'très sympa' wife Carolyn have been staying in Menton for a few days. Such a gracious, charming couple and my goodness, he's a good photographer. Do check out his Menton, Gorbio, Ventimiglia and Dolceacqua photos by clicking on the link above. (scroll down to see all the posts). Today they leave for Avignon and the lovely Nathalie.

Bien que ces fresques ont été quelque peu protégées contre les intempéries depuis que l'église a perdu son toit en 1887, je suis très étonnée par leurs couleurs toujours aussi vives.
A prove that they had very good materials in old times, much better than ours.
ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous palette. amazing how deep and rich the colors remain. these are beautiful, jilly.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful frescoes - esp. love those blues . . .
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing photos of Menton on Bob's St. Louis Daily Photo site. You have been quite the gracious hostess.
ReplyDeleteDave, I did too and it's scary to see such super photos of places one knows so well. Bob is a fab photographer and very generous with his photography advice. A wonderful couple.
ReplyDeleteI love the rich colors and I trust you didn't saturate the hell out of them for us! HA The old worn paint is so beautiful. I love these close ups you've treated us to Jilly.
