Fête des Limaces - the Flaming Torches
In the main photo one of the penitents carries a flaming torch that lights the procession. In the second photo, three ladies of the village and Penitents Blancs of Gorbio - wonderful ladies who do an incredibly amount of voluntary work for the commune. They are are handing out the torches (candles protected by cardboard) for the procession. The lady on the left is Mme. Pastor, in the middle, Mme Strangio and I'm sorry I don't know the name of the lady on the right. Thank you ladies for all the work you do.
And thank you to everyone who has followed this story of one of Gorbio's traditions.

Both photos are fabulous! You did a great job with this photo essay!
ReplyDeleteThe people of Gorbio (whom I know, now, thanks to you and our fun visit yesterday,) are lucky to have you to chronicle their daily lives in such an informed and respectful way. Loved hearing about La Fête des Limaces, as I am about to get reacquainted with Les Banana slugs in Seattle :-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
