Fête de Citron - Gorbio
You only have to look at a lemon and you know it's time for the Fête de Citron in Menton. In fact it starts tomorrow, but today we are in Gorbio where villagers are creating a motif for the village square. This year the motif is perfect for the village because it's a bottle of champagne and later this year we will be celebrating the 300th anniversary of the beautiful elm tree in the square.
In the main photo you see Alain, fixing lemons to the supports. He's working near the top of the bottle. In the smaller photo, you see what it's all about.
Tomorrow - how do they fix the fruit?
-----
It is local fêtes such as these that I adore about France - local pride and a sense of community which are celebrated together.

excellent portrait and wonderful way to kick-off the fete du citron.
ReplyDeleteThe Menton Fete du Citron has been on my bucket list if we make it to Provence at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI love this series about the preparation of the fête du citron but this particular shot is my favourite so far. The composition is excellent with the green diagonal across the image and the focus of the bearded face, the hand and the lemon. You understand what the man is doing yet it is an artisty sort of shot.
