Fête du Citron - the Hot Air Balloon

In which it is shown that Phileas Fogg gained nothing by his tour around the world, unless it were happiness.

'Finally Phileas Fogg won his wager, by making his journey around the world in eighty days. To do this he had employed every means of conveyance: steamers, railways, carriages, yachts, trading-vessels, sledges, elephant, hot air balloon ...'

--------

  2. "Gained nothing, unless it were happiness". What else is worth gaining?

  3. Just a thought in passing :
What the French call Montgolfière, the English speaking world calls hot air balloon, forgetting the name of its inventor.

Conversely what the English speaking world calls Ferris wheel by the name of its inventor, the French only call "grande roue".

It looks like you only get credit for your inventions in your own country eh?

  4. Nathalie, Each motif has a plaque with the words in French, English and Italian. I've copied those - corrected the English but goodness knows which is correct as presumably they are quotations from Jules Verne.
