Gorbio - 'The Year of India' - the Vernissage

This is Luc Lanlo, wearing a beautiful Indian silk waistcoat, who, along with Michel Imbert, curated 'The Year of India' the wonderful contemporary exhibition of Indian artists, currently showing in the Tour Lascaris and the presbytery in Gorbio village.

These photographs are from the vernissage evening. In his speech, Luc spoke with great emotion about the new generation of Indian artists.  

The Mayor of Gorbio, Michel Isnard, spoke of
his Spanish gypsy origins from his mother, and said that the gypsies, both Gypsy and Roma, had a common origin,  that of a people who, driven by famine, had left the highlands of Rajasthan in India in the XIIth century,  and were scattered in North Africa, Central Europe and Spain. He added: 'In Gorbio, the circle closes and the next Spanish Gypsy flamenco festival here will find their most ancient roots, those of India!"

More tomorrow - but first a big thankyou to Luc for a truly fabulous exhibition of sensational art - so varied - yet all with the passion and colour of India.

Voici Luc Lanlo, vêtu d'un beau gilet de soie indienne, qui, avec Michel Imbert, a organisé « L'Année de l'Inde" la merveilleuse exposition contemporaine d'artistes indiens, visible actuellement à la Tour Lascaris et au presbytère du village de Gorbio.
Ces photos ont été prises à la soirée du vernissage. Dans son discours, Luc a parlé avec beaucoup d'émotion de la nouvelle génération d' artistes indiens.

Le Maire de Gorbio, Michel Isnard, (en noir sur la petite photo) a parlé de ses origines gitanes espagnoles par sa mère, et a rappelé que les Gitans, les Tsiganes et les Roms avaient une origine commune, celle d'un peuple qui, poussé par la famine, avait quitté les hauts plateaux du Rajasthan en Inde au XIIe siècle, et a été dispersé en Afrique du Nord, en Europe Centrale et en Espagne. Il a ajouté: «Dans Gorbio, le cercle se referme et le prochain Festival de Flamenco gitan espagnol va retrouver ses racines les plus anciennes, celles de l'Inde!"
