Dog Beach

This is the 'dog beach' in Ventimiglia.  No dogs on it the day I took this photograph.

I love that there are special beaches for dogs to run and play and swim.  We have three, I believe in, Menton.

C'est la « plage des chiens' à Vintimille mais sans chien présent le jour où j'ai pris cette photo.
J'aime qu'il y ait des plages spéciales pour les chiens afin qu'ils courent, jouent et  nagent. A Menton, nous en avons trois, je crois.

The Stray Dog

This sculpture is dedicated to stray dogs. It stands overlooking the estuary at Ventimiglia. The dedication speaks of "two great eyes, an infinite sadness. Hunger, thirst, the desire to live. The dog speaks in silence, asking for help And you dear friend, why do you look away?"

Cette sculpture est dédiée aux chiens errants. Elle se trouve en surplomb de l'estuaire à Vintimille. La dédicace parle de "deux grands yeux, d'une infinie tristesse. La faim, la soif, le désir de vivre. Le chien s'exprime en silence, demandant de l'aide. Et vous cher ami, pourquoi détournez-vous le regard"

Danger!

It was a glorious day here yesterday and these two little Maltese terriers were having the best fun on the Promenade le Corbusier at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. I nearly got run over!

Hier ici, c'était une journée magnifique et ces deux petits bichons maltais s'amusaient énormément sur la Promenade Le Corbusier à Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. J' ai presque failli me faire renverser!

Naya at the Vulcano

Last night, after going to the vernissage of Roch Chinchila's beautiful photography, my friend Sylvie and I went to one of our favourite restaurants in Menton, the Vulcano, for a plate of pasta and a glass of wine.  Great pizzas and pastas here, cooked by chef owner, Driss. And very reasonable.

This little love was my neighbour.... well how could I resist! Her name is Naya, she's nearly 5 and was rescued by her owner - and plainly, they adore each other!

La nuit dernière, après le vernissage de la belle expo photo de Roch Chinchila, mon amie Sylvie et moi sommes allés dans l'un de nos restaurants préférés de  Menton, le Vulcano, pour un plat de pâtes et un verre de vin. Ici, les  pizzas et les pâtes sont supers, cuites par le chef/propriétaire, Driss. Et c'est très raisonnable.
Ce  petit amour était ma voisine .... aussi comment pouvais-je résister! Son nom est Naya, elle a environ 5 ans et a été sauvé par son propriétaire - et manifestement, ils s'adorent mutuellement!

Paulina and the puppies

Today I give you unadulterated cuteness.

Little Paulina and two of the six-week old puppies born in her house in Gorbio. Thankyou to her parents, Berengere and Mika, who allowed me to take photos of their daughter and the puppies. Of course I was in puppy heaven!

Aujourd'hui je vous donne une overdose de pure douceur enfantine.

La petite Paulina et deux des chiots de six semaines nés dans sa maison à Gorbio. Merci à ses parents, Bérengère et Mika, qui m'ont permis de prendre les photos de leur fille et des chiots. Bien sûr j'étais au paradis des chiots!

Vanessa and her father, Paul, run the Bar/Restaurant les Terrasses in the Gorbio.  It's the hub of village life.  Looks like they've got a new server behind the bar. It's Hunique,  Vanessa's beautiful long-haired German Shepherd dog.

PhotoMenton 2014

PhotoMenton starts today at the Palais de l'Europe. We are 110 photographers displaying many different styles of photography. Lots of wonderful photos by talented photographers on display. The invitee of honour is Nikos Aliagas.  He is a French television journalist and a super photographer. And of course PhotoMenton this year is dedicated to Herve Gourdel, the mountaineer who was tragically beheaded in Algeria. Herve has exhibited at PhotoMenton every year since 2007 and was the nicest kindest man. He loved his mountains, his photography and of course his family. There is a fund raising money for Herve's children.

My theme this year is dogs, hence this photo. You can read more about PhotoMenton by clicking HERE.

PhotoMenton commence aujourd'hui au Palais de l'Europe. Nous sommes 110 photographes présentant différents styles de photographies. Beaucoup de magnifiques oeuvres de photographes de talent.  L'invité d'honneur est Nikos Aliagas. C'est un présentateur de la télévision française et un super photographe. Et bien sûr, cette année  PhotoMenton est dédié à Hervé Gourdel, l'alpiniste  qui a été tragiquement décapité en Algérie. Hervé a exposé à PhotoMenton chaque année depuis 2007 et c'était un homme particulièrement gentil. Il aimait ses montagnes, sa photographie et bien sûr sa famille. Une collecte a été organisée pour réunir des fonds pour les enfants d' Hervé.

Agility with Dogs

Each year there is an Agility competition for dogs in the stade in Garavan, Menton. It's lovely to see the rapport between dog and owner as they fly around the course at the fastest speed possible but without making any mistakes!

Chaque année, il y a un concours d'agilité pour chiens au  stade  de Garavan à Menton . Il est beau de voir la relation entre le chien et son propriétaire tandis qu'ils s'élancent  autour du parcours à la vitesse la plus rapide possible, mais sans faire d'erreurs!

Bongo the dog and Tadzio?

This young Italian boy in Menton is trying to make his dog, Bongo, face the camera.

He so reminds me of Tadzio in that fabulous Visconti film 'Death in Venice.' Take a look at the photo on the left. I loved that film.

Llan and his new pup, Toby

Gorbio's main square with its fountain and massive bowls to water the animals is based on a pair of baskets that donkeys used to carry on their backs. It's the perfect place for kids to play.

 Here is Ylan, with his new Staffordshire bull terrier puppy, Toby - 3 months old.

La place principale de Gorbio avec sa fontaine et ses vasques d'eau massives pour les animaux, telles  une paire de paniers que les ânes utilisaient  pour le transport sur leur dos. C'est l'endroit idéal pour les jeux d'enfants.

Municipal Elections 2014 - the Aperitif

An aperitif, along with delicious food prepared by Patricia Mangoni, is on offer to the villagers following the inauguration of the town council.  Even Boutchette, the Bassett Hound from the Restaurant Beausejour has come along, hoping someone might drop a crumb or two!

Un apéritif, avec de délicieux plats préparés par Patricia Mangoni, est proposé aux villageois après l'installation du conseil municipal. Même Boutchette, le basset du restaurant Beauséjour est là, en espérant que quelqu'un ferait tomber une ou deux  miettes ! 

Fete de la Branda - the American Coon Hound

This man is the owner of the stand selling fresh farm produce including live chickens and rabbits. His puppy, which is an American Black and Tan Hound (or Coon Hound) sleeps contentedly on his lap.  She's only four months of ago and is called India.  She'll be used to hunt wild boar once she is trained and of course older.

Cet homme est le propriétaire d'un  stand vendant des produits frais de la ferme , y compris des poulets et des lapins vivants . Son chiot, qui est un chien de chasse américain Black and Tan  (ou Coon Hound ) dort béatement sur ​​ses genoux. Elle a seulement quatre mois et s' appelle India. Elle sera utilisée pour chasser le sanglier une fois qu'elle aura été  dressée et sera bien sûr plus âgée.
