Fete de la Saint Barthelemy - 'Mado la Niçoise'

Mado the Nicoise is a well-known character created by French comedien Noëlle Perna. Nowadays there is a company featuring a copy of Mado - an evening of comedy with 'Mado' wearing the traditional costume of the women of Nice - so here she is on stage in Gorbio!

Mado la Niçoise est un personnage bien connu, créé par la comédienne française Noëlle Perna. Aujourd'hui, il y a un compagnie disposant d'une imitatrice de Mado - une soirée de spectacle avec « Mado » portant le costume traditionnel de Niçoise -  elle est ici sur scène à Gorbio!

Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy - the Barbecue

The evening of the Fete de la Saint Barthelemy sees 'le tout Gorbio' sitting down to the delicious Soupe au Pistou made by Marie-France and her cousin, Michel. And this is followed by a cabaret. Here you see Mika barbecuing sausages. Everything is prepared and served by village volunteers.

Le soir de la Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy voit 'le tout Gorbio ' assis pour la délicieuse Soupe au Pistou de Marie- France et de son cousin, Michel. Et celle-ci est suivie par  un spectacle cabaret. Ici, on voit Mika en train de cuire les saucisses sur le barbecue. Tout est préparé et servi par des bénévoles du village.

La Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy - the Golden Apple

The Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy and the offering of the 'golden apple', is a tradition going back to medieval times when the noble knights brought their offerings to the church. The ceremony has kept its character as a religious symbol of the struggle between good and evil, the crucifix and the sword representing the two social orders. Later, it represented the giving of money to the poor of the village and always the largest possible apple was chosen. Nowadays it is studded with euros!

Here the adorable Winona carries the golden apple.

La Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy et l'offerte de la « pomme d'or » sont des  traditions qui remontent à l'époque médiévale, lorsque les nobles chevaliers apportaient leurs offrandes à l'église. La cérémonie a gardé son caractère, comme un symbole religieux de la lutte entre le bien et le mal, le crucifix et l'épée représentant les deux ordres sociaux. Plus tard, elle a représenté le don d'argent aux pauvres du village et chaque fois la plus grosse pomme disponible a été choisie. Aujourd'hui, elle est parsemée d'euros!

The Fete de la Saint Barthelemy in Gorbio starts with the Blessing of the Animals.  Here Pere Guglielmi is blessing one of the beautiful cats that live in the village. Look at the direct look the cat is giving him - I think he knows what is going on!

La Fête de la Saint -Barthélemy à Gorbio commence avec la bénédiction des animaux . Ici le Père Guglielmi bénit l'un des beaux chats qui vivent dans le village.  Remarquez  le regard direct que le chat lui adresse - je pense qu'il sait ce qui se passe!

Yesterday we met Maxence and today we see him with his sister Valendra - two young people who love Gorbio and so loved showing visitors around the village. I know the feeling!

Hier, nous avons rencontré Maxence et aujourd'hui nous le voyons avec sa sœur Valendra - deux jeunes gens qui aiment Gorbio et ainsi aiment le  montrer aux visiteurs autour du village. Je connais ce sentiment!

Maxence and his sister, Valendra, were staying in Gorbio and just loved giving visitors a tour of the village which was always much appreciated.   We'll meet Valendra tomorrow.

There's no age limit to having fun at the Bar Les Terrasses in Gorbio village.  Timothée thinks Alain has his rubber crocodile but in fact Jean-Louis, on the left, is hiding it in his hands.

Il n'y a pas de limite d'âge pour s'amuser au Bar Les Terrasses dans le village de Gorbio. Timothée croit qu'Alain a son crocodile en caoutchouc mais en fait c'est  Jean- Louis, sur la gauche qui le cache dans ses mains.

Jilly Jackson and the Azur Big Band

On Saturday night Gorbio resonated to the sounds of the Azur Big Band and our own diva, Jilly Jackson. Despite the rain and therefore a short delay, Jilly and the band gave us a wonderful time, transporting us with songs from the Great American Songbook. Thankyou,  Jilly x

Samedi soir, Gorbio a résonné aux sons du 'Azur Big Band' et de notre propre diva, Jilly Jackson . Malgré la pluie et donc une petite attente , Jilly et le groupe  nous ont donné un merveilleux moment , nous transportant avec des chansons du Great American Songbook . Merci Jilly x
