A Winter Wedding - Luca and the Balloon

Yesterday, we met little Emma. Today we meet her older brother, Luca playing with his balloon in the bar before his parent's wedding.

Hier, nous avons rencontré la petite Emma. Aujourd'hui voici son frère aîné Luca, jouant avec son ballon - et sa maman Auriane - dans le bar avant les noces de ses parents.

A Winter Wedding - the Butterfly Bride

It's the day of the wedding and it's raining but the bride and groom are too happy to be bothered by a bit of rain. 

First a visit to the village bar, where they'll wait for their guests, have a beer and play with their children.  Here Auriane pins a flower on her youngest child, beautiful little Emma.  Auriane is ready for the big day - a short white dress and furry jacket - her hair dressed with butterflies and wearing butterfly earrings.  Auriane loves butterflies and at one time lived in a house whose outside walls were adorned with dozens of them.  She was known as the 'butterfly lady.'

C'est le jour du mariage et il pleut mais Auriane et Romain sont trop heureux pour être dérangés par un peu de pluie. 

D'abord une visite au bar de village où ils vont attendre leurs invités, boire une bière et jouer avec leurs enfants. Ici Auriane a épinglé une fleur dans les cheveux de sa plus jeune enfant, la belle petite Emma. Auriane est prête pour son grand jour: une robe blanche courte et une veste en fourrure. Ses cheveux sont décorés avec des papillons et elle porte des papillons en boucles d'oreille. Auriane aime des papillons et elle a vécu dans une maison dont l'extérieur des murs était orné de douzaines d'entre eux. On la connaissait comme ' la dame aux papillons.

A Winter Wedding - Abene and the Mayor's Sash

This lovely cat, Abene, is introducing a new series of photos: the wedding, that took place yesterday, of the couple who own her.

The Mayor of Gorbio, Michel Isnard, who has officiated at the civil ceremony, has hung his official sash on the handle of a window in Auriane and Romain's village house.  The cat thinks it might be fun to play with the tassels.

Cette charmante chatte, Abène, présente une nouvelle série de photos: celle du mariage du couple à qui elle appartient et qui a eu lieu hier.

Le Maire de Gorbio, Michel Isnard, qui a procédé à la cérémonie civile, a accroché son écharpe officielle sur la poignée d'une fenêtre  de la maison du village d'Auriane et Romain. La chatte pense peut-être qu'il pourrait être amusant de jouer avec les glands à franges d'or.

Les Feuilles Mortes

Gorbio's elm tree is losing its leaves.  As the engraving says, it was planted in 1713, making this tree, so precious to the heart of all Gorbarins,  301 years old.

 L'ormeau de Gorbio perd ses feuilles. Comme l'indique la gravure, il a été planté en 1713,  ce qui fait 301 ans à cet arbre si précieux au coeur de tous les Gorbarins.

La Maison Maulandi

This is one of Gorbio's old houses, the Maison Maulandi.  It's currently undergoing renovations, which are almost finished.  A corner of this ancient building has been removed to facilitate access to  the square with the 301 year old elm tree.

As you can see the work has been meticulously done by expert stone masons. There used to be two doors in the lower half which has been transformed into a bus shelter for children and adults.

Voici l'une des vieilles maisons de Gorbio, la Maison Maulandi. Elle est actuellement en cours de rénovation et c'est presque fini. Un coin de cette ancienne bâtisse a été enlevé pour faciliter l'accès à la place du vieil orme de 301 ans.

Comme on peut le voir, le travail a été méticuleusement effectué par des tailleurs de pierre experts. Dans la partie inférieure, là où il y avait deux portes on a crée en un abribus pour les enfants et les adultes.

After the Rain

Finally we have sunshine!  But after endless rain, the sea is somewhat agitated.

Cats and Motorbikes

What is it about cats and motorbikes?  This cat, when he's not sleeping on the altar in Gorbio's church,  he's getting comfortable on someone's motorbike.

Qu'y a-t-il entre les chats et les motos ? Ce chat, s'il ne dort pas sur l'autel dans l'église de Gorbio, vient s'installer confortablement sur la moto de quelqu'un.

A lone nasturtium, drenched in rain, shows us its jewel-like colour outside the Restaurant Beausejour in Gorbio.

Endless rain here but I'm not complaining.  Night photography in the rain brings interesting reflections.  It also means getting wet!

November Days ...

This photo was taken exactly two years ago - sunshine, plane trees, lunch at Place aux Herbes, Menton.  Yesterday we had rain, rain and more rain and it's expected for the next week!

PhotoMenton 2014 - Photography and Friends

On the left my beautiful friend Emmanuelle Deleuse, who was the star in my display at PhotoMenton. Thank you again, dear Emma and so happy to see you yesterday.

And with her, dear Patrick Hanez, photographer par excellence, and such a good friend to me.  I call Patrick my 'gourou' because he's always there to answer any question relating to my camera.  Thank you, Patrick.

So proud - on Saturday evening my photos were awarded the 'Prix du Casino Barrière de Menton', which is a two month exhibition during 2015 in the casino building. And last night, I had the honour to come third in the Public Vote. Thank you so much to those who voted for me.

PhotoMenton is a fabulous exhibition of the work of 110 photographers, taking place over 10 days.  We meet. talk, laugh, learn, make more friends.  See you next year!

PhotoMenton 2014 - Children and Dogs

Nearly every day a class or two from one of Menton's schools visits PhotoMenton. Here is one class sitting in front of my display of dogs, It was fun to discover how many knew the names of the various dog breeds represented and to listen to them talk of their own dogs. The second photo shows more clearly the 12 photos I presented - hope you enjoy them.

Presque chaque jour une ou deux classes ou deux d'une des écoles de Menton visitent PhotoMenton. En voici, assise devant mon affichage de chiens. Il était amusant de découvrir combien d'entre eux  connaissaient les noms des diverses  races de chiens représentées et d' écouter ce qu'ils racontaient de leurs propres chiens. La deuxième photo montre plus clairement les 12 photos j'ai présentées - j'espère qu'elles vous plairont.

PhotoMenton 2014 - Smoke gets in your Eyes

Of course photography exhibitions attract other photographers, as you see her. And often the work on display is intriguing. Roch Chinchila (great name!) has taken photos of smoke and then, in Photoshop, he has built up the colours layer by layer.

Bien sûr les expositions de photographie attirent d'autres photographes, comme vous le voyez. Et souvent le travail exposé est fascinant. Roch Chinchila (super nom!) a pris des photos de fumée et ensuite, avec Photoshop il a rajouté les couleurs couche par  couche.

PhotoMenton 2014 - Michel Lecocq

I just love it when people get passionate about a photo.   Here the work of photographer Michel Lecocq is much appreciated.  Michel specialises in 'long exposure' photography with filters and a tripod. He takes stunningly beautiful magical photographs. http://www.imago-michel.com/

Michel and his wife, Isabelle are well-known and highly respected printers of art quality photography.  They offer an enormous variety of beautiful papers and there is nothing they don't know about the best quality printing.  Michel and Isabelle have been printing my work for the last few years and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.   www.tirage-art.com

PhotoMenton 2014 - Nikos Aliagas

Nikos Aliagas is the invitee of honour at PhotoMenton 2014. If you are French you will know who he is but if you live outside France, you might not. He is a French-Greek television journalist and entertainer, known for being the host of the French reality program Star Academy and the French version of The Voice. His photography is displayed at PhotoMenton and attracts a lot of attention. Note: in one of the photos, Charles Asnavour, a previous invitee himself to PhotoMenton.

Nikos Aliagas est l'invité d'honneur de PhotoMenton 2014. Si vous êtes français  vous devez le connaitre  mais peut-être pas si vous habitez hors de France. C'est un journaliste et animateur de télévision française - d'origine grecque, connu comme animateur de l'émission de télé réalité la Star Academy,et de la version française de The Voice. Ses photographies sont exposées à PhotoMenton et elles attirent beaucoup l'attention des visiteurs. A noter : sur l'une des photos, Charles Asnavour, lui-même invité d'un PhotoMenton précédent.

Watching the visitors look at the photography is fascinating. This lovely man - he sells vegetables and Menton lemons outside the market - took his time, looking at each exhibit very carefully. The photos are by well-known Nice-based street photographer, Laurent Roch.

PhotoMenton 2014 - the Pram

Yesterday was the second day at Photomenton and packed with visitors. Here a young family and friends are admiring Christian Benedetto's beautiful black and white photograph and if the children aren't so interested, well they can always play with the pram.

Hier c'était le deuxième jour de Photomenton où les visiteurs se sont pressés très nombreux. Cette jeune famille et ses amis admirent les belles photos noir et blanc de Christian Benedetto. Et si les enfants ne sont pas si intéressés qu'eux, ils peuvent toujours jouer avec la poussette!

PhotoMenton opened yesterday with great photography, fabulous ambiance, loads of visitors including this stunning young lady with a hair-do to remember.

PhotoMenton a commencé hier avec de la  grande photographie, une  ambiance fabuleuse, beaucoup de  visiteurs, y compris cette superbe jeune femme avec une coiffure inoubliable.

PhotoMenton 2014

PhotoMenton starts today at the Palais de l'Europe. We are 110 photographers displaying many different styles of photography. Lots of wonderful photos by talented photographers on display. The invitee of honour is Nikos Aliagas.  He is a French television journalist and a super photographer. And of course PhotoMenton this year is dedicated to Herve Gourdel, the mountaineer who was tragically beheaded in Algeria. Herve has exhibited at PhotoMenton every year since 2007 and was the nicest kindest man. He loved his mountains, his photography and of course his family. There is a fund raising money for Herve's children.

My theme this year is dogs, hence this photo. You can read more about PhotoMenton by clicking HERE.

PhotoMenton commence aujourd'hui au Palais de l'Europe. Nous sommes 110 photographes présentant différents styles de photographies. Beaucoup de magnifiques oeuvres de photographes de talent.  L'invité d'honneur est Nikos Aliagas. C'est un présentateur de la télévision française et un super photographe. Et bien sûr, cette année  PhotoMenton est dédié à Hervé Gourdel, l'alpiniste  qui a été tragiquement décapité en Algérie. Hervé a exposé à PhotoMenton chaque année depuis 2007 et c'était un homme particulièrement gentil. Il aimait ses montagnes, sa photographie et bien sûr sa famille. Une collecte a été organisée pour réunir des fonds pour les enfants d' Hervé.

One fine day!

We've had the worst weather here. Endless rain.  I think the highest rainfall ever in October and it continues. However, yesterday the sun shone. Tomorrow the rain is due back.  So here we are, just below the cemetery looking towards Italy. The old port on the right and in the distance, the Port of Garavan and beyond that Italy.

Nous avons eu le pire temps ici. De la pluie sans fin. Je pense que ce sont les plus fortes précipitations jamais tombées en Octobre et cela continue. Cependant  hier, le soleil brillait. Aujourd'hui, on prévoit le retour de la  pluie. Donc nous sommes ici juste en dessous du cimetière, regardant vers l'Italie. Sur la droite le vieux port, au loin le port de Garavan et au-delà, l'Italie.

Just Ducky

We met Valmatea the other day with her grandmother, Jacqueline.  She adores all animals and has such an easy way with them.  Here she is with one of her grandmother's ducks.

Mama Mia

You just know this Italian Mama in Dolceacqua is going to be the most amazing cook, don't you? But then, aren't all Italian mothers great cooks!

Family Life in Gorbio

Jacqueline is the lady in Gorbio village who grows vegetables, keeps chickens and has a pet lamb. Here she is with her granddaughter, Valmatea.

Jacqueline est une dame du village de Gorbio qui cultive des légumes, élève des poulets et a un agneau comme animal de compagnie. Ici, elle est avec sa petite-fille, Vaimatea.

Game of Stones

This is the second photo from a few I took of this little boy playing with a stone near the Monument to the Fallen in Roquebrune village.  It's nice to see a child playing with something that isn't a portable device.

Bussana Vecchia - the Pipes of Pan

The Dog with the Yellow Glasses!

Someone has put a pair of yellow spectacles (they are made of paper) on the French bulldog in the photo!  Thanks Sandrine for telling me about it. I popped down to Menton yesterday to take a snap - rain or no rain! I wouldn't normally promote my own photos with so many amazing photographers exhibiting, but I couldn't resist showing you the yellow spectacles.

There are only 10 days left for you to visit the Jardin Bioves in Menton and see the exhibition of 80 photographs by 26 photographers - members of PhotoMenton, Collectif Photon de Nice and Club Image de Monaco. After that, it's all systems go for PhotoMenton in the Palais de l'Europe which starts on the 15th November.

Quelqu'un a mis une paire de lunettes jaunes (elles sont faites en papier) sur le bouledogue français de la photo! Merci Sandrine pour m'avoir prévenue de cela. J'ai filé à Menton hier pour  prendre ce clin d'oeil - avec  pluie ou sans  pluie! Normalement, je ne veux  pas promouvoir mes propres photos parmi tant de photographies étonnantes présentées, mais je ne pouvais pas résister à vous montrer les lunettes jaunes.

Il ne vous  reste plus que 10 jours pour visiter le Jardin Biovès à Menton et voir l'exposition de 80 photographies de 26 photographes - membres de PhotoMenton, Collectif Photon de Nice et de Monaco Image Club. The Span Bridge in Dolceacqua

Recently I posted a photo of the beautiful span bridge in Dolceacqua. (on left) The water was absolutely still water giving a perfect reflection.  But actually I prefer this - love a slight wobble in the reflected buildings...!

Récemment, j'ai posté une photo du bon pont en dos d'âne de Dolceacqua. (a gauche) L'eau était absolument immobile, cela avait donné un reflet parfait . Mais en fait, je préfère ceci - j'aime une légère oscillation dans les bâtiments réfléchis ... !
