La Fête du Citron - the photographer and the red Queen!  Methinks perhaps she is a he!

This is my good friend, Philippe Chiodi, who, along with 2000 others entered a street photography competition organised by France's top photography magazine 'Réponses Photo.' Philippe won first prize! I love Philippe's work, always original and with a true artist's eye.

Voici mon cher ami, Philippe Chiodi,  qui,  avec 2000 autres, participe à un concours de photographie de rue organisé par le top du magazine français de photographie,  "Réponses Photo". Philippe a remporté le premier prix! J'adore le travail de Philippe, toujours original et avec l'oeil d'un véritable artiste.

in the Palais de l'Europe, an adorable old car sits amidst  a mass of exotic orchids. Menton doesn't do anything by halves!

Dans le Palais de l'Europe, une vieille voiture adorable se trouve au milieu d'une masse d'orchidées exotiques.  Menton ne fait pas les choses à moitié!

Each day dozens of workers replace any damaged fruit.  In the background, the voluptuous lady represents Fellini's 'Amarcord'.

Fête du Citron - Death in Venice

It's hardly surprising when visitors to Menton's Fête du Citron stand in wonder at the 'motifs' on display.  This year the theme is 'Cinecitta, Italian Cinema' and here is the Basilica Saint Marco and a gondola - et voila, Visconti's fabulous film, 'Death in Venice.'

The Fête du Citron lasts for three weeks with an average of 240,000 visitors each year and up to 145 tonnes of citrus fruit used.

Rien d'étonnant quand les visiteurs de la Fête du Citron de Menton se tiennent émerveillés devant  les « motifs » exposés . Cette année, le thème est « Cinecittà ,le Cinéma Italien »,  voici la Basilique Saint-Marc et une gondole - et voila  le fabuleux film de Visconti, « Mort à Venise ».

La Fête du Citron dure trois semaines avec une moyenne de 240,000 visiteurs chaque année et jusqu'à 145 tonnes d'agrumes utilisées.

It's that time of year again. The Fete du Citron in Menton, which means thousands of people descending on the town to see the first Corso which took place yesterday.  The theme this year: 'Cinecitta, Italian cinema.'

C'est encore une fois ce moment  de l'année : La Fête du Citron à Menton , ce qui signifie des milliers de visiteurs qui  déferlent  sur la ville pour voir le premier Corso qui a eu lieu hier. Le thème de cette année: «Cinecitta, le cinéma italien.

Dusk. This crazy colour over the Bastion lasted for about 20 minutes and then ... it was gone.

Darkness,  a narrow street. A light shines on the entrance to the Chapelle of the Black Penitents - a short cut for someone walking home.

Port Saint-Antoine

The archway is the original Porte Saint-Antoine, which was once the principal access to Menton from the west.  Walk through the archway and you are in Rue Longue, part of the Roman road of Julia Augusta.

L'arche était à l'origine la Porte Saint-Antoine, autrefois le principal accès ouest de la ville de Menton. Traversez la voûte et vous êtes dans la rue Longue, une partie de la voie romaine Julia Augusta.

This Jack Russell looks as if he's standing on a table but in fact he is standing on a wall alongside this restaurant in Place du Cap, Menton.   Dogs are part of life in France and if you go to a restaurant, then of course, your dog can go too.  I approve!

Hoping the Coal tits will nest on my terrace this year. They did a few years ago but since then they visit to eat the sunflower seeds, but presumably have more comfortable accommodation elsewhere.

Espérons  que les Mésanges Noires feront leur nid sur ma terrasse cette année. Elles l'ont fait il y a quelques années  mais depuis lors, elles viennent  manger les graines de tournesol et ont sans doute trouvé un lieu plus confortable ailleurs.
