Ducking the ducking

Following the blessing of the animals,Vaïmatea finds it very funny when her grandmother, Jacqueline, lets her three ducklings have a swim in the village fountain.

Après la bénédiction des animaux, Vaïmatea trouve qu'il est très drôle que sa grand-mère, Jacqueline, laisse ses trois canetons se baigner dans la fontaine du village.

Blessing of the Animals

The Blessing of the Animals is the first event in Gorbio's Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy.  Because of the rain, there were far less animals this year.   No horses, just a few dogs and three ducklings.  Here Père Guglielmi is blessing a Yorkie.  Pere Gugliemi is a wonderfully kind and gentle priest and asks for each animal's name before he blesses it.

La bénédiction des animaux est le premier événement de la Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy à Gorbio. En raison de la pluie, il y avait beaucoup moins d'animaux cette année. Pas de chevaux, quelques chiens et trois canetons. Voici le Père Gugliemi bénissant un yorkshire.  Le Père Guglielmi est un prêtre merveilleusement gentil et doux qui demande le nom de chaque animal avant de le bénir.

'Singin' in the Rain'

It really was 'singing in the rain' in Gorbio on Sunday night. Le Cabaret Falabrak de  Mado la niçoise were fabulous, as were the villagers with their umbrellas - but in the end, the weather won and the valiant entertainers had to give up.

C'était vraiment «Singing in the Rain » à Gorbio dimanche soir.  Le Cabaret Falabrak de  Mado la niçoise était fabuleux, comme l'étaient les villageois avec leurs parapluies. Mais finalement, le temps gagné et les vaillants artistes ont dû abandonner.

Soup in the Rain

Last night in Gorbio, the village celebrated the end of the Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy with the traditional and delicious soupe au pistou.    As you can see it rained - not that the rain bothered anyone - in Gorbio we simply open our umbrellas!

Hier soir, à Gorbio, le village a célébré la fin de la Fête de la Saint-Barthélemy avec la soupe au pistou traditionnelle et délicieuse. Comme vous pouvez le voir, il a plu - pas que pluie ait gêné quelqu'un. A Gorbio nous ouvrons tout simplement nos parapluies!

Sospel - the Toll Bridge on the Salt Route

Sospel is such a pretty mountain village. 18 kilometres above Menton with the River Bévéra running through it. In the distance the old toll bridge on the Salt Route.

Sospel est un joli village de montagne à 18 km de Menton avec la rivière Bévéra qui le traverse.  Au loin, l'ancien pont à péage de la Route du Sel.

Jilly Jackson, Gorbio's fabulous 'diva' sang with her trio, So Close' at 'Cap Jazz' two nights ago. In fact, she closed the Cap d'Ail festival.
